In fine DIY form, the fellas over at bassmusicblog have started up their own label and just dropped their first release. Not only can you pick up the release itself, a deep and atmospheric rolling double header of Dubstep freshness from Setspeed, but you can also buy the individual stems for laptop DJs to play about with live, or any of you wanting to get on the remix tip. You can pick it up at all the usual outlets or from their Bandcamp page. For a taster check this killer vid from Nic Hamilton. It looks strikingly similar to something I saw whilst trying to close my eyes and sleep after taking too many trippy pills once actually.
Those ever prolific connoisseurs of Bass I.D. & Baobinga have just dropped a killer album of tuneage that covers those areas of speaker destroying music that are hard to pin down to one genre (unless you want to bung it all under the umbrella of Funkycrunkbreakstep... but that's just silly). You can pick up the whole lot for whatever you wish to pay (all proceeds to charity) over at their excellent Bass Music Blog but here's a couple of our favourites.
Also from the Bass Music crew isHeavyFeet who launch a new label this week called Stamp! Beats. To celebrate they're giving away this Roisin Murphy refix.
Rather apt that it took us til St David's Day to upload our Welsh bass music mix for BBC 1Xtrato Mixcloud. If you haven't downloaded it yet take 20 minutes to go have a listen. Nearly alll the artists are from our home town of Cardiff and this scene is buzzing right now. There's no 'sound' to our city as such, but that diversity is what makes it so good. We shall all be back in the motherland next Monday for a gig at Buffalo with Rusko so if you're in the area make sure you reach.
Also whilst we're on a Mixcloud tip here's some of our favourite recent mixes from the site: First is DJ ID from the excellent Bass Music Blog setting something of a marker for where Breaks / Bass music is at right now; some hyper-filth from Kanji Kinetic courtesy of the Trouble & Basscrew; and BBC Radio 1 keep things moving even quicker than we do with two of their mini-mixes from SBTRKT and Four Tet.
Not only did Spoek provide us with a killer mix this week but he's also kindly dropped us this filthsome Kuduro style Hostage remix of a track he recorded with So Called Friend.
All round bass music badman Baobinga kickstarts his new Build label with a helluva bang thanks to his very own Tongue Riddim alongside partner in grime I.D.The track is on a tropical tip mixing up Dubstep, Funky and Kuduro with a remix from UK Funky don and Rinse FM player Roska on the flip. to celebrate here's a another track from the duo on a similar tip that has already had support from the likes of TRG and Buraka Som Sistema.
Heavyweight bass grinding Hip-hop track from Charlie Tipper and Terror Dactel courtesy of New York label Subdrive. A label well worth keeping an eye on via their blog as they regularly give out all the full-quality stems as DRM-free as part of their release package, to encourage remixers to get their hands dirty.
Not one for the hardcore amongst you but a rather pleasant pop tune which floats along nicely over the Dubstep undertones from E Tubbs and Trill Bass. Sounds vaguely Swedish but that's not usually a bad thing.
Some multisensory Monday mixtapes to help you wake up and smell the rest of the week with zest in your eardrums. First some downtempoish glitch speckled mood music from a mix our man zwolf recorded recently for Adam Walton on BBC Radio Wales, easing into a deep melodic Dubstepish orientated journey courtesy of DJ ID then finally, well and truly grab Monday by the bollocks and twist em with High Rankin's set from Jay Cunning's New Breed Stage at Glade Festival, there's a even a video so you can bounce along with the big man himself.
