Last Train To Lenton

S.B.P.M by georgelenton

Wasn’t until we hopped on this electric jelly train of a track from George Lenton, chugging and wobbling all the way to Glitchsville that we realised there’s a fair few tracks we appear to have missed from him recently, obviously this choo choo’s faster than we figured. Here’s a bit of a catch up so you can keep up to date. If you have doubles you can do swapsies in the playground later.

Back From The Sticks

When Skitz dropped Countryman back in 2001 it marked a strong time for UK Hip-hop. His guest emcees such as Rodney P, Roots Manuva, Task Force and Skinnyman seemed to be on course to break through into the everyday consciousness of the nation. Although they definitely made a dent, it seems in hindsight that the only artist from the album to have 'crossed over' as it were is Estelle and since then the scene has been on steady decline. The long wait for the follow up album is nearly over and despite the less than hospitable environment, the first signs are that this could be just what the scene needs (unless the idea of an actual single genre music scene is slightly passé, in which case it will hopefully find some favour in the unclear space between worlds). The first single Requiem Of The Gods dropped a while back and thankfully showed that Skitz hadn't been ignoring Grime and Dubstep like many Hip-hop artists and there was definitely a more bass heavy, electronic tint to the production. The same goes for his latest single Born In The System, which despite being a straight up Hip-hop / Reggae hybrid that pre-cursors both the other scenes mentioned, still manages to hint at the sound of now, especially with the inclusion of Bristol's Buggsy on mic duty who rips a double time rasta rhyme that is straight fire. The whole album is due to drop at the end of May with the single dropping at the start of the month.

CKFR #004 Stagga - Staggamuffin EP

‘Behind the curtain of everyday consciousness is hidden another unutterably strange mental universe.’

So states the opening line of The LSD User, the first track off this killer selection of exclusive dubz from Chrome Kids family member Stagga. Indeed this quote sums up the workings of the EP rather well and you don’t need hallucinogenic drugs to appreciate (although it might help).

Enter a universe in which the hazy memories from generations of bass and raving culture meet cinematic sci-fi at its glossiest. Where classic Kingston sound clashes have been re-constructed on the Enterprise holodeck so we can bear witness to Duke Reid stepping up into the arena sporting a shiny new pair of phaser guns in his holsters before dropping Rocking Down The House and reducing the opposition to rubble. Where Predator joined forces with King Willy’s Voodoo gang, driving around pumping the creep-stepping Science Of Skank through the tinted windows of his low riding space cruiser. A universe that allows the Cybermen to steal the Tardis and go joyriding back to a 90s rave, but then gets them stuck at the tail end of the timewarp to experience the twisted synths and basslines of Determined Dub. Unutterably strange maybe, but unquestionably good.

Stagga’s dubz have been played out by the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, N Type, Starkey, Raffertie, T Minus, Hatcha, Chef and RSD, and this selection has been hand-picked by us to guarantee that they’ll tear down the dancefloor at any Dubstep jam. If you’re feeling them then don’t forget to check out Stagga’s other releases on Rag & Bone, Rudeez and Robox Neotech.

Please notice that this is a limited Fre-release and will only be available for a short period.

The original to Determined on the EP was this track, a reworking of the Goldie track Terminator. After hearing of Goldie's general disapproval of being bootlegged, Stagga took out a few bits and pieces before building it back up. Both versions I'm sure you'll agree are killer
