Magical Bass - Mental Illness

We hear a lot of "mental" and "ill" tracks here, but the recent Magical Bass releases have led us to worrying a bit about the psychological well-being of the artists.  From DJ 0.000001's 19-minute long remix of Freebird to Th' Mole's On The Couch podcast (documenting an actual meeting with a psychiatrist), to this latest release, a troubled albeit entertaining picture is being pieced together.

The free maxi-single for DJ 0.000001's cover of the classic Suicidal Tendencies track "Institutionalized" seems to be in response to recent accusations of mental instability within the Magical Bass camp, and it makes a powerful statement.  DJ 0.000001's breathtakingly honest vocal delivery adds new depth to the brilliant lyrics, while the driving and catchy instrumental keeps you locked in from start to finish, making for a completely different and arguably harder-hitting song than the original itself.  The 7-track single also includes another exclusive track, featuring sampled Saul Williams vocals, as well as several stellar remixes by DJ 0.000001 and GDS (AKA Goddamn Sam of Vankmen).

And this week, DJ 0.000001 has got a new remix and music video for, of all things, a Kenny Loggins song.

DJ 0.000001: Devastatingly Nerdy

Our pal DJ 0.000001's impressive new video puts to shame just about any other drum-pad player and also proves that he is an enormous computer geek. A minute and a half of booming percussion trickery, the audio version is also available.

Unicorn Love & Mole Hatred

With the popularity of last week's Chrome Kids release, the "I Love Unicorns" maxi-single, its creator, Th' Mole, has also taken some flack. The Sickrime Komitty have just released a single called "Fuck Th' Mole!" in which they attack the unique MC's musical ability, self-promotional techniques, and his masculinity!

One of the most cutting verses comes from Ms. Persepshin, in which she states, "...your fuckin' dad's your only fan. It really is no wonder that he raised a sap like you. But lucky for the future of the human gene pool, no woman in her right mind would ever mate with you. I would fuck a million lepers to avoid a date with you." Then, adding insult to injury, Th' Mole's dad makes an appearance in which he claims, "I'm not really a fan of him either. Fuck him."

But every dark cloud has a silver lining. For a good laugh check out the horribly designed Sickrime Komitty web page.

R. Kelly, Chipmunks & "Earth Day Sex"

Yes, it's a provocative headline, but alas, we don't have a juicy story about R. Kelly's latest sexual controversy involving chipmunks. Nearly as exciting, however, is the fact that DJ 0.000001 (AKA Th' Mole of Daly City Records) has two brand new free releases, both oozing with crazy futuristic freshness.

In honor of Earth Day, April 22, "Earth Day Sex" transforms the popular "Birthday Sex" track (by Jeremih) from a weak pop tune into a banging spaced-out slow-jam. Another signature "thrash-up" containing elements from over five songs (including R. Kelly's "Sex Planet" and "The Zoo", Lil Wayne's "Zoo", and more), complete with over-the-top cover art, the track is as hilarious as it is catchy.

Also from DJ 0.000001, in collaboration with Chickenhed, comes All Chipped Up, 20 minutes of exclusive "thrash-ups" with one thing in common: rapping chipmunks! Experience pitched-up vocals from Die Antwoord, E-40, DJ Assault and more, laid atop 0.000001's bumping mutant beats.

Tracklisting:
01. Die Antwoord "Beat Boy"
02. Jamie Foxx "Straight To The Dance Floor" (ft. Lil Wayne)
03. E-40 "I'm On One"
04. Chris Brown "I Can Transform Ya" (ft. Lil Wayne)
05. DJ Quik & Kurupt "Jupiter's Critic & The Mind Of Mars"
06. Th' Mole "Go Horsie"
07. DJ Assault "Ass N Titties"
08. Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes "Block Party"
