Brooklyn Bass merchant AC Slater is back in the UK for two shows with the Plump DJs to help celebrate the launch of their new label Grand Hotel. First up is Sankeys in Manchester on Friday 19th of November followed by Saturday at The Plug in Sheffield.

We have a pair of tickets to give away to the Manchester show as well as a copy of AC Slater’s Calm Down Trilogy EP to give away to the first person who can email us with the name of the TV show that the Trouble & Bass man got his name from. No we haven't decided to revive a pointless rivalry that ends up with some people shot and others very rich... okay maybe a little bit, but really it's simply a tenuous link because we happen to have some great stuff to post from New York and some other fantastic stuff from the California area.


First up, dope LA based beats and bass lovin' blog I Am A Laser has schooled us on a producer / DJ from the city called R/D. Coming out of the same scene as Glitch Mob, the sound on this Mini Mix created from tracks off his new Cricket EP is a touch on the lighter side than the Mob's full force club attacks and is rather more similar to what we've heard so far from the PANTyRAID project, no bad thing at all.

Finally, relative newcomers to the game 13/13 out of Brooklyn have hit us up with an ecletic range of remixes, all of which have had our heads nodding here in Chrome Mansions. Our favourite is probably this re-edit of a classic that doesn't stray far enough from the original to be sacrilegeous but has an extra touch of dirty bass synths to keep it fresh enough to bring back into our sets again.

Those who can remember as far back as our third ever post might recall a heavyweight track from Munich producer Sepalot featuring Brooklyn bad boy rapper Saigon. Did It Again was off Sepalot's Red Handed album, a twisted blend of Electro Breakbeats and Hip-hop that came out late last summer and a couple of months back he released Part 1 of his Red Handed Remixes from the likes of AC Slater, Rob Threezy and Hanzolo. Now it's time for Part 2 as LAZRtag, Barletta, Zed Bias, and Migumatix Electrofunk amongst others step to the boards to give their own interpretations. The EP will be out on June via those fine purveyors of Nu Jazz and Electronic music Compost Records.
