Happy New Year

Right lets jump straight into the New Year. We got some big tunes for you all from some friends and family, so here's to a big 2011 for you all.

Astroid Boys spent the last day of 2010 in the Studio so that they can start the year with a fresh tune for you all. Over some 'dutty stinkin' beat from Curtamos, the boys bring some 'rawdiness' to the proceedings with this one.

Rawdeee (FREE/DOWNLOAD) HAPPY NEW YEAR BOOM ! (CURTAMOS PRODUCTIONS) by Astroid Boys

Mochipet invokes the spirit of the now deceased caffeine heavy US energy drink Four Loko with this hyper crunked up remix of Oakland's Hottub.

HOTTUB - (FOUR) LOKOS ONLY (MOCHIPET PURPLE DRANK REMIX) by Mochipet

Download: Hottub - (Four) Lokos Only (Mochipet Purple Drank Remix) (Direct Link)

The Glitch Mob have had a great year and so as a thank you to all the people who supported them through it they're giving away the version of Drive It Like You Stole It that could be found on their Drink The Sea Part 2: Mixtape

Download: The Glitch Mob - Drive It Like You Stole It (The Mixtape Version) (Direct Link)

We've also had a great year, albeit something of a blur now. If you need a little recap on what's been going on in the wider world in 2010 (or at least in the UK), here's our amigo Mystro with his UK 2010 Rap Up.

Lickin' Lollipop Ladies

The Associated Minds boys are canny lads. Whilst there has been something of a Hip-hop drought of late they have been stock piling some serious tunes to unleash on us all. I say this with a certain amount of guess work, a touch of faith and the slightest bit of actual knowledge. You see they've been keeping their cards closer to their chest than Nicole Kidman playing Strip Poker. We keep catching glimpses, although it might not be wise to use any kind of nipple analogy when referring to some of their rappers.

The latest snippet to sneak out of the stable is this Metabeats produced crunked up funk bumper. The Lollipop Lady’s Favourite is the first single from Willo Wispa’s eagerly anticipated Wot’s Willo On!?! album and features our favourite jazzy Welsh starlet in the making Ruby Samba.

WILLO WISPA (Prod by METABEATS) 'The Lollipop Lady's Favourite' Snippet by AssociatedMinds

The tune is a while heap of fun and we can't wait for the video which looks like it's going to be triple jokes galore if this 'Making of' is anything to go by...

Sticky In The Mud

So as some of you might have noticed from my twitterings, we have banned the words d**ty and f*lthy from our vocabulary. They've become far too easy an adjective for the music on these pages. Of course stankin' is still allowed and that is certainly one way of describing this new Sticky K remix.

Freedom Is A Road Seldom Travelled By The Robots

It's been a while since Free The Robots dropped his debut EP onto the world and in that time his contemporaries on the West Coast scene such as Flying Lotus and Nosaj Thing have firmly wedged themselves into our collective psyche. Now finally we have a full length episode of the FTR show and it's certainly been worth the wait.

The name of Chris Alfaro's project is most definitely apt. This is the kind of freedom that Johnny 5 tasted and all those other androids out there have been dreaming of since. The re-education of the robots takes on a history lesson of their portrayal in human culture with tracks like Sci-fidelity, a straight up 50s B Movie robo-invasion over a killer beat which we can’t help but picture Doom tearing up… ripe for the mash up we’d say. The rest takes in everything from 60s Eastern influenced psychadelia to modern crunk, all translated for the knowledge hungry robot's out there, whilst tracks like Voices takes the education further approaching the emotional side of things and teaching them about the relationships between pain and beauty.

Finally as the freestyle nature of The Eye (a collaboration with Mars Volta's Ikey Owens on keys) really highlights the computer as instrument and with the education complete you can almost feel the life force surging through their circuits. The Robots have most definitely been freed.

Ctrl Alt Delete drops via Alpha Pup Records on March 30th.

F**k Traffic Jams Mixtape Selection

A quadruped of quality mixtapes for you to munch on right now, and right tasty snacks they are too: First up our boy Parker, who has managed to crack smiles from even the most hardcore Dubstep head with his Where's My Monkey bootleg, serves us a slice of what he's delivering to the clubs right now. An eclectic mix which matches up the likes of Nat King Cole, Lethal Bizzle and Subfocus with his own productions, bootlegs and The Beekeepers project (with Boca 45); out of the east is our girl Soulflower sending us over Sub signals from all directions; and our co-conspirator in the bass blog global takeover, Psymbionic from Bwomp Beats lays down some Crunkadelic 'Trip-step' flavours; and finally a different representation of the Haiti we've seen on our televisisons of late, DJ Still Life has compiled some of his favourite Rap Kreyol tracks from the island. These artists obviously need even more support than ever at the moment so if you're feeling it make sure to check out some more from those included.

Getting Ready For Kick Off

Seems that some world class players are congregating in South Africa this year, and no it's not football we're talking about. Here's two of their star strikers, Liver and Disco Izrael.

F**k Thugstep

It’s about time I hit you with another mixtape. Rock The Dub has been pivotal in both pushing the Thugstep sound, and inspiring DJs such as myself to get involved, so it was only right that we teamed up to put out a mix for the end of 2009. Things got even better when Jenai over at Ego Thieves got involved (props for the artwork!).

The end result? A heavy mix of Dubstep/Grime/Crunk, with some exclusive refixes, as well as the ones you know and love...

Whether you love it or hate it, THUGSTEP is here to stay. Forgive me if I sound big headed, but I’ve seen the damage that it can do in rave; and with numerous DJs across the London scene and the UK supporting my blends, it’s great to see people embrace this type of sound. I'm sure DJ Nappy would be proud.

Download the mixtape HERE, turn your speakers up, and throw some bows in your living room...

Tracklisting:

01. DJ Cable Vs. Tempa T & Rusko – Mr. Muscle’s Hype (My Pet Monster Dub) (Ego Thieves Exclusive)
02. Inja Feat. Fallacy & Skinnyman – Hat Low
03. DJ Cable Vs. Joker & Ginz Vs. Lil Scrappy & Young Buck – Re-Up For Money
04. DJ Cable Vs. Mark Pritchard & Dem Franchise Boyz – Wind It Up & Lean Wit It (Ego Thieves Exclusive)
05. DJ Cable Vs. Wonder & Boy Better Know – What, There’s More Girls In Here? (Ego Thieves Exclusive)
06. Breakage Feat. Newham Generals & David Rodigan – Hard
07. DJ Cable Vs. Bonecrusher Vs. Chase & Status Never Scared Of Eastern Jams
08. Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz Feat. Lil Scrappy – What U Gonna Do?
09. Coki – Tortured
10. Lil Jon Feat. Three 6 Mafia Vs. Coki – Act A Fool (DJ Nappy Thugstep Refix)
11. DJ Unk Vs. Genetic Crew – 2 Step (DJ Nappy Thugstep Refix)
12. Allstar Cashville Prince Feat. Yo Gotti Vs. El Rakkas – Tear It Up (DJ Nappy Thugstep Refix)

Enjoy!

Our Monday Mix

As promised, bit of a Monday Mixtape special this week as we bring you... Us.

We did this mix for Adam Walton's Mystery Tour show on BBC Radio Wales. Adam's been a strong supporter of many Welsh Dubstep and Hip-hop crew over time, infact he's been a strong supporter of pretty much every good Welsh band out there full stop. He let us run rampant for half an hour and this is the result. We kept it in Dubstep territory this time but with strong Hip-hop and Grime overtones. Starting with the big bass monsters, smoothing out a touch then getting twisted before leaving you on a high note. With a couple of original productions from crew members Monkey & Stagga.

Have a listen, let us know what you think. If you want to book us for a DJ set email Adam at C23Management@hotmail.com - we'd love to come rock your party.

Which Way West

As the rain kicks in here at Chrome Mansions let's look to sunnier climates and head over to the West Coast, USA for a sonic holiday.

Flying Skulls hit us up with two of their new releases, which comprise of remixes from their Take Flight remix by artists such as Mochipet, Ribotto and their own BBQ Chicken Dub alter egos. Abducted Vol 1 is out on Addictech now or on iTunes as of tomorrow. Abducted Vol 2 is out as an exclusive release on Daly City Records and includes this remix of Skeleton Talk. With it's machine gun drum patterns, some of the squelchiest bass alive and twisted G funk synths, it's kinda like listening to classic Dr Dre in a K hole.

Download: Skeleton Talk (BBQ Chicken Dub Remix) / alt link

Meanest Man Contest just dropped us this superbly spaced out remix of their track Day Off Theme from the excellent new Leaders compilation on Subtitle's Briefcase Rockers label (also featuring Lazer Sword, Small Is Beautiful, Debruit, Crunc Telsa and a whole heap more). On this version their pal Calamalka from Vancouver gives it a beautifully liquid sounding Rolf Harris wobble.

Download: Meanest Man Contest - Day Off Theme (Calamalka Remix) / alt link

Not many Emcees can touch Gift Of Gab for straight up free firing flow and liquid lyricism. A master of his art that at times is mind blowing and at others has you waving bananas in the air in a funk fuelled frenzy, so of course we await the new album eagerly. If you're also a fan of the gifted one then you can pre-order his sophomore solo album here. If not then maybe this track can convince you, a latin tinted funk nodder with a lovely dubbed out breakdown at the end.

Download: Gift Of Gab - El Gifto Magnifico / alt link

Muti Music just uploaded this sinister low fi creeper from the Glitch Mob and PantYRaid don Ooah onto their Soundcloud account. We're not certain but it's probably a teaser for the next Acid Crunk compilation from An-ten-nae due out on Muti in November.

The label also have a compilation out now that they've put together for the Symbiosis Gathering festival that is most definitely worth copping (out on Addictech at the moment and full release in the next couple of weeks). It features the original of the Skeleton Talk track posted above and some of our other favourites from the likes of An-ten-nae and Eskmo.

It's Bigger Than...

We love getting new stuff from Kid 606's Tigerbeat6 label, because like the man himself, you never quite know what's in store but it's guaranteed to slap you in the face and make you listen. This time they've hit us up with the debut EP from French Glitch hop producer Humanleft and it's rather ginormous. It's like a big melting pot of our favourite things with elements of Acid Crunk, Ghettotech and Dubstep all in a phat bassed up, glitched out packed lunchbox of fun. You can pick up the EP from here.

Download: Humanleft - Roarr / alt link

We first heard of Cleveland Hip-hop crew Keyel after they hooked up with Flako on a blunted out excursion for their new mixtape. Now the mixtape has finally dropped in full force and it shows the fellas in fine form over a bunch of head bobbing future soul Post-Dillafied beats including this one produced by Sa-Ra.

Download: Keyel - Hanging by a String (prod. by Sa-ra Creative Partners) / alt link

Download: Keyel - Volume 1 (Mixtape)

Grayskull just hit us up with this glitched up re-rubbing of Amanda Blank' already fairly phat and filthy track. Think I prefer it to the original but then maybe I might like her's better if we slept together.

Download: Might Like You Better (Grayskull Remix ) / alt link

Maybe it's all in the name but there must be something in the water over in Boulder, Colorado cos I swear a few of our favourite Glitch hop tracks recently have been from that direction. This free EP from Denver Bass Squad member Samples is no exception. 5 and a bit beats that are crunchier and crisper than a bowl of dry cornflakes and ten times as tasty.

Download: Samples - Intercontinental Ballistic Lazer (EP)

Download: Samples - Blakka / alt link

In one of those interconnecting web jumping missions that can take days we also came across Freddy Todd out of Detroit, who has hooked up a remix for Samples in the past and has a number of his own filthy glitch ridden bass bangers currently riding round our playlist.

Download: Freddy Todd - Vespertino / alt link

Download: Freddy Todd - Ghost Dance Messiah (EP)

Our boy Ralph Rips Shit just put us on to the Mixtape that came out earlier in the year from Fresh Daily (who also has a new album that dropped last month). Some well borrowed beats from the likes of Flying Lotus, Gorillaz and Oddisee that perfectly frame his finely tuned seemingly effortless flow. Includes a heavy guest appearance from fellow New Yorker Mickey Factz (we're still looking for a 320 copy of him rhyming over Machine Gun by Portishead, hit us up if you got one).

Download: Fresh Daily - Tomorrow Is Today (Mixtape)

Download: Fresh Daily - Space Movies (Kanye West Dub) / alt link

Download: Fresh Daily - Winterfresh (Flying Lotus Dub) / alt link

On a jazzier mellow tip we just picked up this beautifully epic track from Leaving Records. It's a track from Oscar McClure who will be dropping his debut album on the LA based label in the near future. Perfect for a crisp Autumn morning.

Beware The Blue Bunnies

We're already fans of ProF's laid back productions here at Chrome Kids but think this has to be our favourite so far. It's sundown at the beach meets sunrise on Mars, a beautiful liquid crunching digital Hip-hop funk fest.

CKFR # 5 DJ 0.000001 & Mochipet - Eazy E On Atari

Eazy E was the first to admit that he wasn’t exactly a role model. Yet that didn’t stop millions of teenagers kids all across the world looking up to the alter-ego of business brain Eric Wright and agreeing that this was indeed one gangsta muthafucka worthy of respect. Many hardcore Hip-hoppers have since cursed the day that guns, bitches and bling became one of the cornerstones of the movement, but secretly they were never directing their ill feelings towards originators such as Eazy E. Without him Ice Cube would probably still be ripping off the Beastie Boys, Dr Dre might still be wearing make-up and both Yella and MC Ren would have disappeared without trace (okay so that happened anyway but you get the drift). He carried an arsenal of guns bigger than he was, had money coming out of every orifice and pussy falling out of his pockets but still managed to donate millions to charities, and regularly took orphans on field trips. Sadly, in a cruel twist of irony, his passion for ‘pussy’ caught up with him and in 1995 he died of AIDS, leaving a bullet sized hole in the Hip-hop world, and spreading fear across anyone in LA who had neglected to use a condom recently.

Now thanks to a rare 92 accapella and the kind of electronic re-engineering that only happens to cyborgs in sci-fi movies, ‘the lunatic psycho muthafucka’ is back from the grave, on a mission of sex, death, violence and revenge, all good family entertainment as usual. Mixes come in a glitched up and bouncy style from Eprom, a juggernaut driving DJ 0.000001 mix for those long lonely highways and a huge Mochipet mash up of the two that comes stomping in like an electronic Hip-hop slaughter fest. Think Ed 209 Versus Robocop or one of the missing evil Decepticons that turns into a crunked up Monster Truck with speakers in its rims.

"That's very fucking rude!" Rob Da Bank (BBC Radio 1)

This EP is the latest in our Fre-Release series that started with a previous DJ 0.000001 track and has since included Stagga, zwolf and Th’ Mole. Look out for plenty more lined up over the rest of the year.

Here's Mud In Your Ear

We've given you a few more than usual today as we're off to brave the mud (or not, fingers triple crossed) at Glastonbury. If you happen to be going or manage to blag your way in before Saturday we shall be playing in the early hours of Sunday Morning (2am til 3am to be precise) over at the Baseline Tent in Shangri La. Come get rowdy, if not we hopefully return after the weekend.

We're Playing Master P On Atari

The Daly City don of digitally crunked up dirt and devastation, Mochipet, is back with a new album that's more raw to the core than anything that's come before.

Where as Microphonepet was largely about big beats for the guests to ride on and to be honest Bunnies & Muffins pretty much snuck past us, Master P On Atari is all about gargantuan beats that are so in your face it would be impossible to ignore. They've literally taken over and they're pissed off, ready to trample buildings and fling trucks about. The sound is probably best described by taking random words from the track titles, such as: Hyphy; Turbo; Sumo; Robo; Crunk; Bass; Ghetto; Godzilla; and straight up Full Frontal Face Melt.

Master P On Atari is out July 4th on Daly City. Here's a track from the album...

Plus if like us you need to play catch up slightly, here's a track from the Bunnies & Muffins album, featuring the delightfully dapper genius of Daedelus.

Hot To Death

West Coast digital Hip-hop mutants The Flying Skulls have hit us up with a few rocks of their Club Crack remix bootlegs that are almost as disturbing as they are dope as f**k.

To be honest I'd be kinda scared to drop the Spank Rock sampling Club Killer remix out in an actual club, in case it did inspire literal dancefloor murderations, whilst Welsh rhymer Mudmowth is having a 'Circus In The Cemetery' and 'Carnival On Your Carcass' with his classic Skullcrackology track getting the full filth treatment from the The Flying Skulls. The death analogies don't stop there either as the ghost of Aaliyah haunts the live jam remix of Rock The Boat, probably what The Ferryman has cranked up loud on his MP3 player if he's still shipping souls to Hades.

These tracks are essentially mash ups with the beats to be found on their forthcoming album Take Flight, which isn't actually all death and doom, although it is certainly a killer. We'll tell you more about that twisted beauty nearer the time, although if you download the zip files to retrieve all three tracks then there's a press release preview for your perusal.

Caught Red Handed

Those who can remember as far back as our third ever post might recall a heavyweight track from Munich producer Sepalot featuring Brooklyn bad boy rapper Saigon. Did It Again was off Sepalot's Red Handed album, a twisted blend of Electro Breakbeats and Hip-hop that came out late last summer and a couple of months back he released Part 1 of his Red Handed Remixes from the likes of AC Slater, Rob Threezy and Hanzolo. Now it's time for Part 2 as LAZRtag, Barletta, Zed Bias, and Migumatix Electrofunk amongst others step to the boards to give their own interpretations. The EP will be out on June via those fine purveyors of Nu Jazz and Electronic music Compost Records.

Here's one of the tracks off the compilation and a short mix featuring a selection from both Parts 1 and 2.

Tracklist:

1. Jump Too ft. Olivier Day Soul & Hanzsolo (Sepalot Remix)
2. Go Get It ft Lady6 (AC Slater Remix)
3. Surrender ft. Blu (Barletta Remix)
4. She Likes Me ft. Frank Nitty (Rob Threezy Remix)
5. Did It Again ft. Saigon (Zed Bias Remix)
6. Go Get It ft. Lady6 (LAZRtag Remix)
7. Jump Too ft Olivier Day Soul & Hanzsolo

And a couple of cheeky bootleg remixes also...
