We've been waiting a while for the new EP from our boy Until The Ribbon Breaks and although the UK might have to wait a little longer for an official release, his new home in the States has finally seen the release of 'A Taste Of Silver'. This is the latest video from the EP, a collage of Baz Luhrmann's 'Romeo & Juliet'. Of course if you're in the UK and don't want to wait, you can always head to his Soundcloud and pick up the tracks for free..
Elucid has been hard at work putting the finishing touches to his Super Chocolate Black Simian release which is out 11th January. Here's the first taste and think these are probably our favourite yet, even more menacing, intense, passionate and poetical than usual riding huge productions from Chasing Shadows and DVA. Not sure what type of war we'd ever want to get into, but whatever it is we've found our marching music.

Been a while since we heard anything from Elucid but it's more likely cos we've had our head up our arse then any lack of actual output from one of our favourite New York Hip-hop / Dubstep rhyme exponents. Some of you may remember the project we mentioned from him and El Carnicero called Capricorn One, well they're definitely one of the most smoking duos since Cheech & Chong and they've just dropped their first official single called Pandemonium.

As you might have expected we have been loving the new Elucid album. But we wanted to know if our feelings and thoughts on the Sub Bass Diet had any correlation to the feelings and thoughts that went behind making it, so we asked Elucid to break the spirit of the album down for us, turns out we are definitely on the same page.
Here's what he had to say...
The Sub Bass Diet is relevant because of its fearlessness. The old model of selling music has all but vanished and NOW is the time for artists to experiment and be bold enough to not really give a fuck about popular opinion. That spirit of rebellion has always informed my music and I stuck to my guns here with The Sub Bass Diet. I set out recording SBD without any sense of nostalgia for the past (and a thorough disgust for the present) I looked ahead and tried to make music I felt was a foundation for the future. Dubstep and other digital bass heavy rhythms only matched the vibes I was bringing across lyrically.
With the title playing on The South Beach Diet I imagined the music as a method to shedding the dead weight of life and stepping into new consciousness for myself. This is reflected throughout the project. Messages of self love, vision, purpose and determination are there for those who need it. But where there's love, trust there's destruction around the corner. Destruction of outdated ways of thinking,interaction, egomania, class/race/gender inequalities and all that separate us from truth.

Backed up by a soundtrack that spans over two decades of clubbing, all wrapped up in a tasty present day pastiche, New York City’s Vinyl Life at first sound a bit like classic Jungle Brothers, only with haircuts and designer jeans, before delving deeper into the club, ending up in the ladies toilets doing lines off somebody's breast, losing any associations with the Brother's afrocentric meanderings on the dancefloor of the club's sweaty backroom where all the really cool kids hang out.
Finally they hit the after party and it ain't stopping til way past 6am as their forthcoming self titled album and Jack The Hype mix are left to loop round on the player until the very last few remaining people are left standing... and that's probably going to be Vinyl Life themselves.

No we haven't decided to revive a pointless rivalry that ends up with some people shot and others very rich... okay maybe a little bit, but really it's simply a tenuous link because we happen to have some great stuff to post from New York and some other fantastic stuff from the California area.
First up, dope LA based beats and bass lovin' blog I Am A Laser has schooled us on a producer / DJ from the city called R/D. Coming out of the same scene as Glitch Mob, the sound on this Mini Mix created from tracks off his new Cricket EP is a touch on the lighter side than the Mob's full force club attacks and is rather more similar to what we've heard so far from the PANTyRAID project, no bad thing at all.

Finally, relative newcomers to the game 13/13 out of Brooklyn have hit us up with an ecletic range of remixes, all of which have had our heads nodding here in Chrome Mansions. Our favourite is probably this re-edit of a classic that doesn't stray far enough from the original to be sacrilegeous but has an extra touch of dirty bass synths to keep it fresh enough to bring back into our sets again.

Alot of rappers are now starting to get over there fear of Dubstep, only takes a few bootlegs before they realise you don't have to go double time or Grime style to make it work. Elucid is one rapper that has no fear whatsoever in stepping to any type of riddim and this time he's murking a Joker track, who's moody frustrated production is a perfect bed for Elucid to lay down some of his own economic frustrations. My Mayor is a Billionaire is taken from the Brooklyn bass fiend's forthcoming Sub Bass Diet project.
