Cardiff Runnings

Seems that things have been kinda quiet in the Welsh capital recently but there's always a lava pool of talent bubbling under the surface ready to erupt in a volcanic explosion of sound. If it eveer does happen these folks should definitely be part of Cardiff smoke cloud set to bury the unexpected.

We've got a big bag of dubz courtesy of Curtamos whose sound is ever developing and now bridges the Dubstep borders between deep and dirty perfectly. Look out for Drop and Stormtroop in particular, both have been snapped up for release. He also hit us up with this Reel 2 Real bootleg which returns a certain amount of credibility to the dope but rather cheese stained club classic.

We first heard of the L.D.P. (previously L.D.G. - Lock Down Generals from what we can understand) from Stagga's Face Get Splat track which featured JBone and Y Dot from the crew (which also includes Ability). Yesterday we posted a preview to the Cardiff Grime crew's new DVD but then after hunting them down we got hold of this track as well, only 128kbps but well worth a listen.

Speaking of Stagga, we previewed his remix of Hour Glass by Squid Ninjaz soldier Joe Blow a while back. Well Joe just hit us up with the original to the track which is going to be the first single from his new album Dead Man Smoking.

Welsh Round Up

Props to Adam Walton who had us in for a mix a couple of months back. His end of year round up on BBC Radio Wales included some of our favourite tracks from our beloved homeland too, including zwolf's Room For Doom which we gave you on a Fre-Release EP earlier in the year, Metabeat's future soul freebie Fruit Salad, Pete Lawrie's Black and Blue mix with Speech Debelle and Junglebiz from Mr Curtamos. For the full 3 hour Welsh round up you can listen again on the BBC iPlayer for the next week.

New Year Catch Up

Hopefully you've enjoyed your Christmas and New Year break as much as we have, our inboxes are now overflowing with goodies though so we're just gonna hit you with 1 choice Video, Mix, Track and Remix out of them all before we carry on with what the New Year brings.

VIDEO

After her recent ventures into the acting world with parts in Dubplate Drama and Adulthood, Shystie returns to the mic backed up by breakbeat leg-end DJ Deekline (as in Deekline & Wizard). 'New Style' is released later this month on Deekline’s very own Rat Records with remixes from Oh Snap and Doc Nasty.

This mix from ex Kids In Tracksuits, Matt Cutler a.k.a. Lone (who dropped a gem in the form of his aqua-crunkish Lemurian album last year) was originally featured on XLR8R.com and includes some of our Chrome favourites such as Rustie, Mrk 1 and our fellow Cardiff resident Mr Curtamos whose fine dubz we've been rinsing extremely hard of late.

Tracklisting

01 Kona Triangle "Pinchbeck Intro"
02 Lone "Indigo Breath"
03 Plaid "Anything"
04 Kode9 vs ld "2 Bad
05 The Tuss "Fredulogon6"
06 Rustie "Response"
07 Drexciya "Triangular Hydrogen Strain"
08 Macabre Unit "Lift Off"

TRACK

Have to admit I was dubious about anyone calling themselves Don Cash, I was kind of expecting some G'd up foolishness but instead found some rather intriguing Hip-hop Electro-Punk Popish Old Skool business. This track isn't really representative of the rest of the 'Freshy Fresh' album but you can check the whole thing via ZShare here.

(YSI) Don Cash - Party Over Here

REMIX

In Jen Feldman's own words this is "Rick Ross's 'Hustlin' re-imagined for the cashmere set" and indeed when listening to this remix it's hard to picture that Rick Ross actually intended this track to be anything but a dreamy little ditty about what he gets up to "What's that Ricky? You've been hustlin' really hard, there's nice for you." Any initial aspirations to being a bad boy are immediately squashed beneath Jen's happy go lucky production. A fine job indeed.

Call Him Mr Curtamos

It pleases us greatly that our favourite Dubstep to grace the Chrome Kids mailbox recently comes from right on our very doorstep here in Cardiff, Wales. These tunes are so big I’m surprised they don’t crash the server at YouSendIt and they’ve been the cause of much complaint from the neighbours at Chrome Mansions, who themselves have to admit they’re more than worthy of such wall wobbling volumes.

Mr Curtamos has already had some killer releases on Abducted and Stupid Fly making his way into the upper reaches of the Juno Download charts. And if the selection he sent through are anything to go by he has many more to go. We’ve included a few of his tracks on the remix tip so you can see what we’re barking on about.

(YSI) Santogold – Creator (Mr Curtamos Refix)

Santogold’s ‘Creator’ pretty much lends itself to Dubstep anyway but Mr Curtamos just adds some final masterful touches for this killer refix.

(YSI) Mr Curtamos – Walk N Skank

On this track he juggles up the Jah Screechy track of the same name that you might recognise from SL2’s seminal ‘On A Ragga Tip’.

(YSI) Mr Curtamos – Heartbroken (link removed, out soon so go buy it!)

Heartbroken takes T2’s original Bassline House bubbler and mutates it into a rip snorting monstrous beast that is guaranteed to ravage any dancefloor.
