Remix Tuesday?

So many tunes, so little time. Was going to put these up yesterday as a tribute to Remix Sunday from the Palm's Out blog which I have sorely missed, until I realised 2 things. One - Remix Sunday is alive and well and in no need of a tribute and Two - it was Monday and I was a day late. Luckily most of these guys should need little to no introduction to our regulars so let's not waste time talking, get downloading!

Download: Shigeto - Drag (Mike Slott Remix) via XLR8R

Download: Marina & The Diamonds - Shampain (Last Skeptik Remix)

Damaged Good$ Doing Some Good Damage

We’ve been keeping an eye on Texan rhymers Damaged Good$ since their fantastic but seemingly overlooked project with Xrabit. They showed then that they have an ear for a dope beat and now they've proved themselves beyond the call of duty with their new 'mixtape' in which they ride a bunch of killer tracks from the likes of Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and Caspa (his Deadmau5 remix).

Download: Damaged Good$ - $pread Love Not Germ$

Or if you want a little taster first here's a couple of the teacks in question.

You Can Call In On Pelski

One of our favourite blogs You Can Call Me Pelski is hosting a night in London on Friday with a suitably sick line up of guests. Rustie and Roska are both well known to smash up a dance but this mix from The Boog-A-Loo Crew shows not to sleep on them either. With the blog's very own Charles Darkly to complete the line up this is set to be a scorcher and what's more it's all totally free if you get there before midnight.

Smak Ma Bitch Up

Like many young people his age, Rustie has an unhealthy taste in bland saccharin RnB singers. Luckily for him he's using the well founded therapy of creating something good from the bad, or is it rather the opposite and infact he's created something nasty as hell from the nice and sweet? We're not entirely sure whether it's Keyshia, Ke$ha Keisha or even erm Keisha, or some strange hybrid of them all but either way they get a Rhianna style beat down from the Glasweigan baller.

Monday Mixtapes On Mars

First up Pete Concrete gives us an insight into his leftside listening habits which shows some of the inspiration between the top choices he makes for the releases on his own Eat Concrete imprint (Take, Herrmutt Lobby, Bretzel Zoo, Aardvarck, etc); Next we have many a twisted turn in Lazyboy's (fyi - not our hombre Rob Da Bank, Dan Carey or the dude from Aqua) mix of 'Future Step, Cosmic Garage and Chip Tune Grime'; and finally El-Mahdy R brings us our first mixtape from Turkey which is more in the straight up Dubstep realm but which, like all the mixes today stays warm and grown up but with more than a hint of youthful mischeviousness and just a touch of menace.

One Guy Named Mohawke

We're most excited about the iminant arrival of the new Hudson Mohawke (where's our promo copy btw?!) and to further get us musically moist we've just been sent these 2 bootlegs which were originally put out as white labels LuckyMe x Wireblock sometime last year. HudMo rampantly rags up some R'n'B bitches, even Biggie couldn't dream up such filth.

Download: Ashanti - Still On It (Hudson Mohawke Remix) / alt link

Download: Tweet - Ooops (Hudson Mohawke Remix) / alt link

Just incase you've been hiding in a lead box for the past few months and haven't yet heard anything of the Butter album that drops via Warp on October 26th, here's a mix of snippets from the album along with one of the featured tracks in full.

Download: Hudson Mohawke - Butter Snips / alt link

Download: Hudson Mohawke - Rising 5 / alt link

And there's also an excellent podcast from the fellas at Wireblock over at the XLR8R website at the moment featuring the likes of Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Slugabed and Joy Orbison. Check it out here.

In celebration, one of the nights' co-founders has just supplied FACT Magazine with this twisted crunked out mix for bumpin'loudly in ya low riders, jeeps and time travel enabled DeLoreans.

XLR8tion

XLR8R Magazine have an incredible mix from Kid 606 currently up on their website. Over an hours worth of funked up filthy bass heavy Electronic beats ranging from DJ Nasty to Drop the Lime and Rustie to Dexplicit with a few of his own freakishly phat productions thrown into the 47 track deep mix for good measure.

Error Message

Not sure quite when it dropped, but just been made aware of this free album from Error Broadcast Collective, an Experimental Hip-hop label who have sourced some great glitchy, minimal beats from every corner of the globe for this release and also plan a limited edition of vinyl 7''s to correspond.

You can download the whole album in high quality MP3 or FLAC files here, which we highly recommend but there's also a few of our choice cuts below.

Today We Is Mostly Listening To.,..

The latest podcast from seminal Bass, Glitch and Beats show Electronic Explorations has one of our current favourite crews in for a guest mix and it is HUGE. With all the (deserved) hype surrounding Glasgow - Akira Kiteshi are holding it down for the Scottish capital of Edinburgh with some of the phattest and most phucked up tracks around. Their mix includes some of their own exclusives plus sounds from the likes of Rustie, Starkey and Bassnectar... Get the full track listing and live stream here.

(Direct Link) Electronic Exlorations: 071 - Akira Kiteshi

New York rapper Elucid just leaked us a dangerous Kode 9 remix from his forthcoming Sub Bass Diet E.P. Just picked up some killer tracks off his Myspace page too so gonna post some choice cuts up once we've given them a proper rinsing.

(YSI) Elucid - Laser Days (Kode 9 Remix) / alt link

Also out of New York, Sub Swara set the scene for their forthcoming Sub City Sessions at Le Poisson Rouge on April 24th (w/ The Glitch Mob, Lazer Sword, Sub Swara & Ana Sia) with the latest edition of the Sub Swara Podcast on iTunes. Definitely worth subscribing if you haven't already.

(iTunes) Sub Swara Podcast: 5th Edition

You might have noticed this track near the top of our recent chart, The Last Skeptic has smashed it once again with this Dubstep meets Hip-hop remix of leftfield pop starlet Marina And The Diamonds. Look out for more Skeptic remixes from Daniel Merriweather, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Mongrel (which we featured recently), The Game, Eslam Jawaad, Joe Budden and Lowkey which will be included in a remix album later in the year.

(YSI) Marina and the Diamonds - Mowglis Road (The Last Skeptik Remix) / alt link

Loving the new Gouseion EP on Run Riot but nobody does their releases verbal justice more than the label themselves...

"Gouseion back on the missile-test range with More Friends For The Fire, a razors-open titanium jigsaw puzzle EP. Applying more pressure to the squared off rhythms of RRR avantclub, MFFTF takes the compressions of modern electro saws and the dizzy, sweeping drops of hyphy into physically treacherous arenas."

Exactly.

(YSI) Gouseion - We're In High School / alt link

Mary Anne Hobbs didn't make it in to do her show this week as she got stuck on a broken down train, but it did give a great opportunity to catch up on some of the mixes we've missed in the past from: Nosaj Thing, Mono/Poly; Hyetal; Ras G; Ben Klock and Appleblim @ Bloc. Can still listen again on the BBC iPlayer for the next few days.

Regular readers to the blog should know about Troublemaker by now, but the first time we caught him was on a remix of Camp Lo's Luchini alongside fellow Hollyrock co-hort Tatelarock, know they bring double trouble once more to De La Soul's classic Oooh, a timewarping fusion of Hip-hop eras that takes the focus off the floor and turns it into a subtle Electro stepper.

(YSI) De La Soul - Oooh (Tatelarock and Troublemaker Remix) / alt link

Also taking it back whilst keeping that future flavour is this track from JDP, which has a similar feel to fellow Chi-Townites The Cool Kids. Guest vocals come from Swedish rapper Adam Tensta, who also featured on the Troublemaker remix of Nothing To Worry About which we posted up the other day (see the linkage working here).

New Year Catch Up

Hopefully you've enjoyed your Christmas and New Year break as much as we have, our inboxes are now overflowing with goodies though so we're just gonna hit you with 1 choice Video, Mix, Track and Remix out of them all before we carry on with what the New Year brings.

VIDEO

After her recent ventures into the acting world with parts in Dubplate Drama and Adulthood, Shystie returns to the mic backed up by breakbeat leg-end DJ Deekline (as in Deekline & Wizard). 'New Style' is released later this month on Deekline’s very own Rat Records with remixes from Oh Snap and Doc Nasty.

This mix from ex Kids In Tracksuits, Matt Cutler a.k.a. Lone (who dropped a gem in the form of his aqua-crunkish Lemurian album last year) was originally featured on XLR8R.com and includes some of our Chrome favourites such as Rustie, Mrk 1 and our fellow Cardiff resident Mr Curtamos whose fine dubz we've been rinsing extremely hard of late.

Tracklisting

01 Kona Triangle "Pinchbeck Intro"
02 Lone "Indigo Breath"
03 Plaid "Anything"
04 Kode9 vs ld "2 Bad
05 The Tuss "Fredulogon6"
06 Rustie "Response"
07 Drexciya "Triangular Hydrogen Strain"
08 Macabre Unit "Lift Off"
09 Clark "For Wolves Crew"
10 Mrk1 "Get Out Clause"
11 Jakes and Joker "3k Lane"
12 Mr Curtamos "Glowinthedarkstep"

TRACK

Have to admit I was dubious about anyone calling themselves Don Cash, I was kind of expecting some G'd up foolishness but instead found some rather intriguing Hip-hop Electro-Punk Popish Old Skool business. This track isn't really representative of the rest of the 'Freshy Fresh' album but you can check the whole thing via ZShare here.

(YSI) Don Cash - Party Over Here

REMIX

In Jen Feldman's own words this is "Rick Ross's 'Hustlin' re-imagined for the cashmere set" and indeed when listening to this remix it's hard to picture that Rick Ross actually intended this track to be anything but a dreamy little ditty about what he gets up to "What's that Ricky? You've been hustlin' really hard, there's nice for you." Any initial aspirations to being a bad boy are immediately squashed beneath Jen's happy go lucky production. A fine job indeed.

Man Make Music Carnival Special w/ Rustie, Jackmaster & more @ Rhythm Factory This Friday 22/08/08

I shall hopefully be reaching down to catch the last day of Notting Hill Carnival on Monday but for those who want to start early then I’d suggest heading to Man Make Music down at the Rhythm Factory over the other side of London for their annual carnival party, this time featuring two stalwarts of the bass community Glasgow Glitchmeister Rustie and B’more UK Ambassador Jackmaster.

Support comes from grime crew Man Scandalous Unlimited and resident DJs Sketchy and Another Amit.

Here’s a quick Dubstep mini mix from Another Amit consisting mainly of hyperdub

Another Amit - MMM Dubstep Mix

You can also download some Jackmaster mixes from his Myspace page

Whilst Rustie has just posted a new track Jagz The Smack on his page.
