Thug That Isht

Now I love that future, intelligent, deep, 'post' Dubstep sound as much as the next man but every now and then you just want to load up the iPod with a bunch of Thugstep tunes and go swaggering into the local supermarket doing trolley drive-bys with a pack of baby bells (is that just me?). What better soundtrack than this new pre-tour mix from Trillbass. Can download a full tracklisting here.

Plus here's a little taster with their dutty skanked out Pah’Je remix.

DJ Cable Vs. Joker & Ginz Vs. Three 6 Mafia "Stay Fly in Purple City" (Thugstep Quick Hitter)

It's been a while wince I posted another Thugstep blend. Massive thanks to everyone who's been supporting them, whether it's playing them at raves, on radio, or on you iPods... It means a lot.

DOWNLOAD

This was originally done as a mashup for my BBC 1Xtra Guest Mix for Mistajam back in February. I figured that it worked so well, I though I'd make it into a proper blend. I've called it a quick hitter as it's only the first verse and chorus; the reason being that the rest of the acapella doesn't fit so well with the whole tune. Also, like myself, most DJs like to mix quickly, so it's always nice to have something short and sweet with a clean intro and outro.

Let me know what you think!

P.S. This will also feature on "Fuck Thugstep Vol. 2", which is coming soon!

Damaged Good$ Doing Some Good Damage

We’ve been keeping an eye on Texan rhymers Damaged Good$ since their fantastic but seemingly overlooked project with Xrabit. They showed then that they have an ear for a dope beat and now they've proved themselves beyond the call of duty with their new 'mixtape' in which they ride a bunch of killer tracks from the likes of Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and Caspa (his Deadmau5 remix).

Or if you want a little taster first here's a couple of the teacks in question.

DJ Cable Vs. Ludacris & Starkey "How Low, Luv? (THUGSTEP Blend)

It's about time I hit you with another Thugstep blend. You may recognise this one from my January Podcast; imo it worked so well, that I decided to make a full blend out of it. Fully tagged, encoded at 320kbps...Vocals kick in after 32 bars, giving you a chance to mix/double drop properly.

DOWNLOAD: Dirty/ Clean

As the acapella didn't come with a chorus, I had to make one using a section of the first verse.

DJ Cable Vs. Mark Pritchard & Dem Franchize Boyz "Wind It Up & Lean Wit It"

It's about time I unleashed yet another blend/mashup for your listening pleasure...And what better than some good ol' THUGSTEP?

If you remember "Fuck Thugstep Vol. 1", then you'll know this was made as an exlcusive blend for Ego Thieves & Rock The Dub. However, due to the amount of people asking for it, I thought I'd be kind and post it up here as a free download.

Enjoy!

Ride, Swerve & Dance Yo Ass Off

Funny how you can take the most lazy ig'nant thugged out track and turn it into a dope B'more party rocker. This fact will never cease to amuse me.

Super Sharp Shirbuls

I’ve picked up quite a lot of music from the Middle East over the years (admittedly most of it was rather cheesy, if anyone has some ‘real’ music hit me off), however Israel is probably the one country from that part of the world that has musically eluded me in the past. Aside from maybe Yael Naim (who had that song New Soul on the Apple Macbook Air advert) and The Apples (not sure if there’s some kind of strange link here) I would have struggled to name anybody else from the region.

But now thanks to a new compilation ‘Shirbul’ from Israeli DJ / Producer Nadav Ravid, I finally have a sonic door through which to slide through and take a peek at what’s happening there, and just to help us along, they are all tracks which he has remixed in a Chrome Kids friendly fashion over the past 5 years.

Nadav Ravid is one half of future funk duo Polar Pair who have some releases out on the Tru Thoughts label and Botanika, a musical collective who also host a regular podcast (the latest of which I have posted below).

Shirbul’ means remix in Hebrew, at least it should be as there’s no other word which exists for it. Might take a little bit of time before it surfaces in the Hebrew dictionary however.

The whole compilation can be downloaded for free here or as a 51 minute mix by fellow Botanika member Amir Egozy here and is made up of exclusively the remixes which Nadav has done for Israeli artists, although in our selection below we have also included a fantastic Polar Pair remix of Bone Do Role’s ‘Jabuticaba’.

(YSI) Electra - Better Sound (Worse Sound Remix by Nadav Ravid)

Steppin' Down & Dirty

Scuse the lack of posts over the last few days... although the Chrome Kids family is growing, at the moment the blog side of things is down to me and this week has been the get ready for uni time. Should be back on it after Wednesday.

Speaking of Uni, last term after a documentary I was working on with somebody else about Dubstep in Wales was wiped off the computer (I know, I know - back that shit up), we quickly had to come up with a plan B and ended up doing a 'mockumentary' on Thugstep - which we described as being a cross between Dirty South and Dubstep (kind of). Well it doesn't suprise me that there are actually people out there calling the tracks their making Thugstep already and it's similar to what we described. I shall be covering a couple of them over the weeks but first I have to give mention to a similar (if not exactly the same) branch of Dubstep - Dirtystep (or Crunkstep maybe). Here represented by New York producers DJ Nebulla and DJ Dore in their 2nd installment of the Dirtystep Mixtape, featuring their own bootleg remixes of artists such as 3:6 Mafia, T.I. and Soulja Boy in a way that elevates the originals greatly and actually gives the 'Dirty' in Dirty South some credence.

and here's a few Direct Links to the individual tracks...

DJ Dore & CONstruct - Ay Ay Bay

DJ Dore - Slap
