For all those of you snowed in at the moment or simply can't move cos you stuffed yourselves too much over Christmas, here's a bumper blog post of new music that should see your speakers through to the new year in fine style.


First up, if you haven't picked up a copy of the Stagga single 'Genik Riddim' yet, get involved! The track featuring Skamma & Joe Blow from Squid Ninjaz is beastly and the release carries killer remixes from Starkey, Distal and HavocNdeed. Not for the faint hearted though, this is definitely on the grimier side. Here's a copy of the Starkey Remix (Radio Version just in case you want to play it to your mum or jam it on the airwaves).

Next up is a fresh bootie from our boy Parker. as expected he's smashed it again with a beefed up Glitch hop take on a funk / soul club classic. We've posted a couple of Kill Light tracks up here before but pretty sure we haven't put this one up yet. It's from their new EP on Black Butter Records and is a great fusion of deep tribal Future Garage vibes and more jump up Funky-esque flavours. Foreign Beggars have been killing it this year and their Dented Records label continues to drop top quslity Hip-hop from their extended family also. The latest release is the Brainstorm Mixtape from LDZ (London Zoo) and is probably the best from the crew yet. To be honest we generally check for the guest spots which as always here includes dope spitters such as Dubbledge and Stig but this stands up the whole way through despite being rather too lengthy at 24 tracks.

Bossasaurus have been on our radar for a while but they have just dropped their first official album and by jove I think they've got it. Thoughtful journeys off the beaten track, epic journeys in space and funk excursions into the future. An all round winner for any fans of Glitch hop, Future Boogie or Instrumental Beats in general and all for free from their Bandcamp page.

Although we are definitely feeling the new Glitch Mob album here in Chrome Mansion we know a few of you out there were less than chuffed with their change in direction that meant a lack of ‘glitches, crazy edits or bizarre effects’ and less of a club selection. If that was you then keep an ear out for the new album from Kraddy that’s due to drop on Alpha Pup soon. Although we’re yet to hear the album ourselves, we know he’s still very much a fan of the ‘glitch’ in his music and if this exclusive mash up he passed us is anything to go by then all those elements will be in full effect on the ex Mob-ster’s next offering.

Another killer refix for you here from HavocNDeed, fast becoming one of our favourite pair of pile driving beat purveyors. This one takes the NWA classic Dopeman through a range of tempo changes, stomping from 140 to 180 to 90. Most useful indeed.

It's about time I hit you with another Thugstep blend. You may recognise this one from my January Podcast; imo it worked so well, that I decided to make a full blend out of it. Fully tagged, encoded at 320kbps...Vocals kick in after 32 bars, giving you a chance to mix/double drop properly.

Part of the fun of Mash Ups is an appreciation or at least understanding of the original tracks, but we have to admit we don't know either of these (although we get the distinct feeling we probably should) and this track's still dope. Props to The White Panda for sending it over.

Joker is killing it right now (matter of fact everyone within the Bristol scene is doing a lot), and with his recent remix of Simian Mobile Disco, plus an album in the pipeline, 2010 looks like it could be his year.

I'd already put this Lil Scrappy acapella over Coki's "Shattered" a while back (last year, in fact), but thought I'd update it by putting over Joker & Ginz' filthy anthem "Re-Up". Plus, I think this one pisses over the original blend I put together...I've also added an extra 8 bar intro for the DJs...

Slowly the Glastonbury memories are starting to return and so we can begin to tell you a little about our weekend adventures. We all had completely different experiences so will try and bring you at least a couple of viewpoints but this is how it pretty much went down for me...

Having been in attendance at the festival since I was a knee high nipper it seems to be almost against the Glastonbury way to plan out your weekend and flap around stressing about getting to see all the acts you want... so I never do. In fact I generally spend most of the time not seeing fantastic acts, which this year included Hudson Mohawke, Q Tip, N.E.R.D., Don Diablo and erm Bruce Springsteen and it works out pretty well for me. The main issue is I really can’t deal with the big stages or the Dance arenas, when people complain that Glastonbury has lost its way and become too commercial, they have obviously spent too much time in the wrong parts.


My lady friend and I did make one bold mission to the Dance arena. We tried reaching over to see Raffertie in the Dance Lounge on Thursday night but the times were changed and so we managed to miss his set. Feeling just a tad disappointed and left in the middle of the masses, who were being visited upon by a biblical thunderstorm, we vowed not to set foot over that end of the festival for the rest of our time there and so stayed safely on the other side with the futuristic dystopian dreamlands of Shangri La, Arcadia and Trash City.

We did venture into the Pyramid area to catch some of The Specials set but it wasn’t until Ghost Town that the miserable magic of Terry Hall truly seemed to fit the proceedings, that was their last tune and pretty much the last thing I can seem to remember as a friend with a big bag of horse tranquilizer helpfully ensured an early return to my tent only to re-emerge around 4am to carry on. Bouncing from Bashment in Trash City to Balloons at the Stone Circle would generally seem like a culture shock if it wasn’t for the fact that Glastonbury is carefully tied together with an anything goes attitude that makes it all seem as equally strange as it is perfectly normal.


The Bassline Circus dome in Shangri La seemed like the perfect home for our set as it sat like the central hive raised above an area that was part Brave New World and part Star Wars. The place was spilling out the door and the crowd were well hyped for some dirty bass heavy beats thanks to some killer sets from live Dubstep troop Engine-Earz and Radio 1’s Bobby Friction, not to mention the Circus’s own off the wall antics which sit sharply on the edge of both the street and the stage. The set itself couldn’t have really gone better, and even though security weren’t too pleased at the stage invasion that got completely out of control, we figured it was a pretty good sign we were doing alright.


Sound seemed to be a major issue throughout the festival though, something they really need to sort out in future (as well as the 8 hour queue to get in on Wednesday), it didn’t help that Bruce Springsteen apparently ordered all the sound systems turned down during his set (a fact that our boys Sicknote were most upset about, check one of the band's blog). Hot 8 Brass Band put on a decent show but the sound was plain awful, and was even worse some of the other times we went past the Jazz World stage. That might have been part of the problem with Roots Manuva's show on that stage, but actually it was more likely the rather poor selection of tunes (didn’t he notice nobody actually bought his last album) and having the stage presence of an agoraphobic, albeit a mildly enthusiastic one. Dizzee Rascal was also rather lacking in the performance department although he has a strong enough repertoire of crowd pleasers to help the masses not notice, and masses there were indeed. He has firmly cemented his move from bad boy Grime artist to golden boy Pop star and the amount of grannies, trannies, teenagers and ravers singing / rapping along in the crowd certainly proved that. There was also the obligatory tribute to Michael Jackson, which consisted of Semtex playing a few instrumental bars of about four Mikey tracks whilst Dizzee acted like he was going to rap over them… but didn’t. Of course the death of Jacko was the main conversation of choice over the weekend and it was surprising how quickly the T Shirts announcing it started popping up everywhere.


The other main topic was whether to watch Blur or Prodigy (again the T Shirts joined in the conversation), we avoided this problem by spending this period in our tent, I can’t really tell you much about what we were doing but it involved some 2CB and a higher level of tantric than an Indian holy man could hope to reach. Even though Blur were supposed to have been amazing, I could almost guarantee that I was having a better time than anyone actually there watching them. We eventually made it back into the festival to catch the last bout of rain and miss a fantastic show from Chrome Hoof at Trash City due to an overt queue aversion.


I guess the main way to sum up the different approaches to Glastonbury is: the package tour way, where you see all of the sights and sounds you’re supposed to and vow to get your money’s worth. You marvel at some things, taking plenty of photos, but then you get disappointed a lot, complaining that it’s not like the brochure and being stuck with the rest of the package tour crowd on their stag and hen parties; then there’s the backpacker way where you wonder off the beaten track, discover the dodgy back lane bars with that great little band that nobody’s ever heard of, meet shed loads of people then lie to your family about how you got to see The Boss / Machu Picchu but lost your camera so don’t have the photos to show how great it was.


We had definitely overdosed on Michael Jackson by the time we left Glastonbury and things aren't going to ease off for some time yet, but seeing as it was the biggest news of the festival it's only right to add our tuppence worth. West Coast digital Hip-hop mutants The Flying Skulls have hit us up with a few rocks of their Club Crack remix bootlegs that are almost as disturbing as they are dope as f**k.


To be honest I'd be kinda scared to drop the Spank Rock sampling Club Killer remix out in an actual club, in case it did inspire literal dancefloor murderations, whilst Welsh rhymer Mudmowth is having a 'Circus In The Cemetery' and 'Carnival On Your Carcass' with his classic Skullcrackology track getting the full filth treatment from the The Flying Skulls. The death analogies don't stop there either as the ghost of Aaliyah haunts the live jam remix of Rock The Boat, probably what The Ferryman has cranked up loud on his MP3 player if he's still shipping souls to Hades.

These tracks are essentially mash ups with the beats to be found on their forthcoming album Take Flight, which isn't actually all death and doom, although it is certainly a killer. We'll tell you more about that twisted beauty nearer the time, although if you download the zip files to retrieve all three tracks then there's a press release preview for your perusal.

The Bank Holiday Weekend has got off to a blazin' start here in Cardiff, both weather and night wise. Kicked off Friday with French Mash-up pioneers Loo Placido who've been literally mashing up the scene since back in '99 including making a bunch of tracks for the MTV Mash show, one of which Madonna performed live at one of her concerts. It's a scandal they're not better known over here but luckily Glo Bar was rammed to the rim and were more than impressed by the sounds emanating from two sets of mysterious shining red eyes bobbing around behind the decks.

Last night played a bit of back to back with Matt The Hat at his Small Weekend micro festival alongside Dead Residents, Dubious and Derwyddon Dr Gonzo. Think the funniest part was watching a few rugby lads who must have wandered in by accident and got extremely offended at The Doctor from Dubious shouting out 'I f**king hate you, you Welsh c**ts' during his performance (all just part of the act fellas). Derwyddon Dr Gonzo responded later with 'twll tyn cob sais' (basically 'up yours to the English' in Welsh).

Was a great night but slightly gutted about missing Rico Tubbs Vs Mickey Slim which was over in Glo again but managed to catch them both at an after party and I'm pretty certain there'll be plenty future face offs to come. If you haven't got a copy of Rico's Remix album yet then make sure you pick up a copy, here's a mix of tracks from it by the man himself that should let you know why. The album is part one in a series of 4 apparently so can't wait to hear the rest. Did have a mix due from Mickey as well but he's been locked away working on his own album that should be finished pretty soon. Sure we'll get one off him for you before too long though.
