Mishka keep the big mixes rolling with the next installment of their Keep Watch series. Brooklyn's party starting producer crew Trouble & Bass take us on a journey through some of their favourite Dubstep, Bassline, B'more and Electro tunes.

Hardcore fans might not want to imagine the idea of a John Lennon B'more remix and this track might not be for hardcore B'more fans either but iamxl's version of Woman is obviously done out of love for the original, and although this is something a little different for iamxl, we think it's a fair translation.

Think it must be dope as f**k Mixtape month cos here comes another fire blazin' bad boy courtesy of UK DMC and ITF Finalist DJ Cable who mixes up Bass-heavy Electro, B'more, UK Funky, UK Garage, Grime, Bassline and Dubstep into The Mash Down Vol 2, showcasing both superior skills and selection. Cable has previously provided mixes for BBC 1Xtra and Kiss FM and was marked out as a DJ to 'watch out for' in iDJ Magazine, a sentiment we strongly second.

Funny how you can take the most lazy ig'nant thugged out track and turn it into a dope B'more party rocker. This fact will never cease to amuse me.

I'm half tempted to write something really wanky and rather offensive in its racial stereotyping such as 'these tracks carry the full frontal force of a Glasgow kiss with perfectly precise execution blah blah something about a samurai sword' due to the fact that DJ P.O.L. Style hails from Glasgow but is now rooted deep in the Tokyo scene where he is flying the flag for B'more and other related party Bass styles with his Numbers and Tonight events plus releases on Tittsworth & Ayres' T&A Records and the excellent Dress 2 Sweat label, based out of his home town...and because he makes the kind of music that carry the full frontal force of a Glasg... okay you get the idea, let's not go there.

However there are certainly no punches pulled in his interpretation of the music which verges on Ghettotech at times in its relentless party posturing designed to drag you kicking and screaming onto the dancefloor. This is just a taster but look out for more phunked up as f**k releases coming soon on the labels we just mentioned.

This kind of mix makes me wish it was sunny and I was on a beach some place, this would be a depressing thought (as it isn't and I'm not) except I'm finding it far too hard to be down whilst this is playing. Bubbling mix of Hip-hop influenced Electro, Figit and Bmore from the combination of New York Turntablist DJ JayCeeOh and 'Miami Crate Digger' PQ.

Those Fidgity Cardiff B'more brothers Chesus & Rodski have now been taken under the wing of the Bigger Than Barry boys and will be heading out to Ibiza with them from March 23rd - 26th alongside Toddla Tand Tomb Crew. They will also be playing alongside the DJ wing of Chrome Kids and the mighty South Rakkas Crew outta Miami on Wednesday 4th March at 10 Feet Tall in Cardiff.

In the last 20 minutes since I got hold of a bunch of 2 Bit Thugs remixes they are very quickly becoming one of my favourite remix crews. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to type this cos all I want to do is jump on the table and wave the cat in the air like I just don’t care. These tunes are like a tractor with bad suspension, big bouncing beasts flinging dirt everywhere as they go and not stopping for anyone foolish enough to get in their way. Packed to the brim with funk, and basslines like a laser lasso, they’ve put their mark on such classics as It’s Like That by Run DMC, Cypress Hill’s Insane In The Brain and the B'more meets Miami in London re-rub of 2 Live Crew’s Party. This track here doesn’t seem to be a remix as such, and to be honest it’s one of the best from the lot. If this doesn’t get a dancefloor packed, then the club’s not open yet.

Been a while since we had any B'more on the blog so it's about time we remedied the situation. XLR8R.com just gave us a heads up on their latest podcast from the Chavy Boys Of London. A Baltimore 'supergroup' consisting of Scottie B, Shawn Caesar (co-founders of Unruly Records) and King Tutt. Not quite sure where the name comes in, sounds more like a Bassline crew to me, but who cares. This is a damned fine mix.

Only a week til the Swn festival and our official DJ premiere as the Chrome Kids. Still have a bit more info to post about the weekend but one of the nights I’m looking forwards to most is High Contrast, Y Diwygiad, Beatbox Fozzy, Metabeats and Chipmunk at The Point on Saturday night (15th).


For those who aren’t aware of Metabeats, he produced one of the stand out hip-hop albums last year with Metaphysical on the Associated Minds label. Here though he shall be doing a DJ set and I’m not sure what kind of set he’ll be playing but he’s currently smashing up clubs round our way under the name Chesus playing a mix of Baltimore, Garage, House, Juke, Fidget and Baile. Not only this, but he has collaborated with Rodski out of the Skinny White Boys to put together a phat selection of dancefloor fillers to suit the vibe of their DJ sets. Bit tricky to post regularly at the moment as have just moved house and so I'm still hijacking my new neighbour's wireless (thank you Richard, whoever you may be) on my girlfriend's lap top. I’ve picked up quite a lot of music from the Middle East over the years (admittedly most of it was rather cheesy, if anyone has some ‘real’ music hit me off), however Israel is probably the one country from that part of the world that has musically eluded me in the past. Aside from maybe Yael Naim (who had that song New Soul on the Apple Macbook Air advert) and The Apples (not sure if there’s some kind of strange link here) I would have struggled to name anybody else from the region.

But now thanks to a new compilation ‘Shirbul’ from Israeli DJ / Producer Nadav Ravid, I finally have a sonic door through which to slide through and take a peek at what’s happening there, and just to help us along, they are all tracks which he has remixed in a Chrome Kids friendly fashion over the past 5 years.


Nadav Ravid is one half of future funk duo Polar Pair who have some releases out on the Tru Thoughts label and Botanika, a musical collective who also host a regular podcast (the latest of which I have posted below).

‘Shirbul’ means remix in Hebrew, at least it should be as there’s no other word which exists for it. Might take a little bit of time before it surfaces in the Hebrew dictionary however.

The whole compilation can be downloaded for free here or as a 51 minute mix by fellow Botanika member Amir Egozy here and is made up of exclusively the remixes which Nadav has done for Israeli artists, although in our selection below we have also included a fantastic Polar Pair remix of Bone Do Role’s ‘Jabuticaba’.

The immaculately monikered trio of: Subbass- Commandante Graf von Stierenfroed; Bass-King T; and DJ King Augenring, join forces to make up Schlachthofbronx. Fine purveyors of what they call Munich Bass. In other words they don’t limit themselves to one form of Bass music and can be found ripping it up in Bavaria and beyond as both DJs and Producers in Ghettotek, Kuduro, Baltimore, Electro, Dubstep or Miami Bass style… sometimes all together. I shall hopefully be reaching down to catch the last day of Notting Hill Carnival on Monday but for those who want to start early then I’d suggest heading to Man Make Music down at the Rhythm Factory over the other side of London for their annual carnival party, this time featuring two stalwarts of the bass community Glasgow Glitchmeister Rustie and B’more UK Ambassador Jackmaster.

Support comes from grime crew Man Scandalous Unlimited and resident DJs Sketchy and Another Amit.

Australian DJs Simon Sez & DJ A Style have been ripping it up separately with their Grime, Hip-hop, Baltimore & Bashment sets around their home town of Melbourne and across the world for some time. Simon Sez is the DJ for Aussie Hip-hop crew Justice & Kaos and DJ A Style is a DMC and ITF finalist, but they have now joined forces to create Vinyl Man & Wax Boy – a 4 Turntable Stage Show and remix outfit who have just dropped a phat Baltimore tinged remix of NERD’s ‘Everybody Nose’ called LA Coke Bars.
