West Coast Vs West Country

Following up from his killer Ludacris v. SebastiAn Mash up, Glitch hop pioneer Kraddy hits us with another meeting of musical monsters. This time it’s a royal rumble between the Oakland crew, Luniz' classic I Got 5 On It and the purple tinted track City Hopper from Bristol's Dubstep don Joker. Grab a copy below.

LUNIZ vs JOKER [KRADDY NEXT LEVEL MASH-UP] by KRADDY

Some may remember that before City Hopper dropped as an instrumental, the beat was used for the Central Spillz track How We Roll. Unfortunately we’ve lost our copy and the link’s expired but you can listen to it here and hopefully if the fellas are reading they can drop another download link in the comments below.

DJ Cable Vs. Joker & Ginz Vs. Three 6 Mafia "Stay Fly in Purple City" (Thugstep Quick Hitter)

It's been a while wince I posted another Thugstep blend. Massive thanks to everyone who's been supporting them, whether it's playing them at raves, on radio, or on you iPods... It means a lot.

DOWNLOAD

This was originally done as a mashup for my BBC 1Xtra Guest Mix for Mistajam back in February. I figured that it worked so well, I though I'd make it into a proper blend. I've called it a quick hitter as it's only the first verse and chorus; the reason being that the rest of the acapella doesn't fit so well with the whole tune. Also, like myself, most DJs like to mix quickly, so it's always nice to have something short and sweet with a clean intro and outro.

Let me know what you think!

P.S. This will also feature on "Fuck Thugstep Vol. 2", which is coming soon!

Our bredren Superisk from out of Bristol's mighty Central Spillz collective hit us up with this killer mix, hosted by fellow Spillz member and general man about town Koast. The Central Spillz boys will be hitting our home town of Cardiff alongside Pangaea and our very own Monky on May 21st, looking forwards to that one for definite.

Spilling Out

Bristol crew Central Spillz have definitely got that meeting point between Hip-hop, Dubstep, Grime and Drum N Bass locked. Bringing back that back and forth rhyming that gives a great family vibe to their flows, they have been backed up this time by two of their hometown heavyweight producers in the shape of: Joker, who adds his purple tint to How We Roll and will be releasing the instrumental on Tectonic next week under the name City Hopper; and Guido who boosts up the booze and drug fuelled tales of Fear & Loathing, a party animal's propaganda track rather than a wasteman's anthem, but then I guess that depends how well you're built for a Bristol night out.

Bristol Streets Is Cold...But Lively.

The temptation to hibernate at winter is pretty strong but we're fighting the urge to spend our time indoors in the warmth, as that can soon get pretty gloomy when the lack of sun and social interaction kicks in alongside the Christmas shopping list. It's a good thing I did venture outside to scour the streets of Bristol for presents or I would never have bumped into local tune pusher DJ Lekan and I would never have been able to share these new tunes he just hit me up with. Both from Bristol boys but featuring two of the UK's top emcees, Roots Manuva and Sway respectively, these both have an intriguing kinda Grime meets Swing flavour although in different ways. That in itself is pretty Bristolian whether they realised it or not. You may have already caught Stone's track on Toddla T's Fabriclive 47 mix whilst the Kners tune, that was produced by one our favourite Glastofarian's Ninth Letta and also features one time X Factor singer Nicole Jackson, has been getting some love from BBC 1Xtra.

Seems only fair to mention another two Bristol based folk seeing as their remixes have been blowing up our blog big time. Parker has had a crazy amount of love for his Where's My Monkey bootleg with 56,000 views on the YouTube video. He's just dropped a heavy funk fuelled breaks / Hip-hop project alongside Boca 45 under the name The Beekeepers. Their Bee Funk EP came out yesterday on Jalapeno Records and to follow up his Pony Remix that was riding high in the Hype Machine popular list for some time, Boson dropped us this wicked little skank n grind track he cooked up.

Download: Boson - Bag-o-Wire / alt link

Why stop there? Whilst we're back wondering the streets of Bristol later, we may well wander into Mr Wolf's and catch the Weapon Of Choice night that, amongst a hefty line up features one of our local favourites, Vertebrae, an excellent crew of whom two of their members have hit us up with some fresh tuneage. Ben One gives us some weighty instrumental Glitch hop whilst Awkward features alongside an all star cast on this track from Chicago / LA rapper Open Mike Eagle.

Of course we couldn't do a post about Bristol without including this remix from the city's current golden boy.

Joker & Ginz Vs. Lil Scrappy & Young Buck "Re-Up For Money (Cable THUGSTEP Blend)"

Joker is killing it right now (matter of fact everyone within the Bristol scene is doing a lot), and with his recent remix of Simian Mobile Disco, plus an album in the pipeline, 2010 looks like it could be his year.

I'd already put this Lil Scrappy acapella over Coki's "Shattered" a while back (last year, in fact), but thought I'd update it by putting over Joker & Ginz' filthy anthem "Re-Up". Plus, I think this one pisses over the original blend I put together...I've also added an extra 8 bar intro for the DJs...

Shouts to everyone who's been supporting the THUGSTEP blends, there's more to come soon! In the meantime, enjoy this little re-fix.

Thursday Square Up

The 87 Stick Up Kids have blessed many a Troublemaker remix and always make it their own. They work so well together that it's actually quite a suprise that this is the first official collaboration between the LA natives. Taking every era of Hip-hop firmly into the future this could probably fit back to back into any selection of classic bangers.

Leeds teen producer JSaxton adds some Dubstep dirt to VonStrokes broody Tech-House bubbler.

This track from the new Filewile EP on Mouthwatering Records is a blend of crisp and light rhymes, electronic beeps and bouncing bass. Solid in a dreamy sort of way.

And we can't give this up for download but it's well worth a listen. Om Unit take Joker for a Glitch-hop ride.

Vive La Republic

We wholeheartedly support what these guys are about, although not sure this film pushes hard enough the idea that it's not a regressive attitude they're taking by being against the kind of development being proposed by the council, it's actually a hyper-progressive one as they're thinking about further into the future then just making quick easy money and also building upon the internal strengths as well as the external. If ever you're in Bristol, Stokes Croft is a must to visit.

Found this video on The Peoples Republic Of Stokes Croft website.

Speaking of Bristol, we're loving the new release from Wascal, one of the many talented producers in the city. Glisten Up is a warm, sparse and moody Garage roller whilst Sub Mission is a magic carpet ride into the grimey depths of Dubstep with a touch of the Jungle in there too. Pick up a copy here. It's also a good excuse for us to put up this reworking of a classic Niney The Observer dub we've been selfishly holding onto for a while now.

We also have a new half hour mix from him featuring all his own productions. You can download or check the tracklisting here.

Dubbilicious

We got a heavy bag of Dubstep for you today people, some chilled some fire for the floor but all help to highlight why the scene is literally taking over right now.

First up is something a little different from the massive jump up remixes we've come to know and love from Doorly. Bit more of a slowly intense grinding smoulderer but no less impact, as he takes on the new Basement Jaxx track Raindrops out on XL Recordings.

This is just a 128 promo but you can pick up the wav or higher quality MP3 here.

Those kind fellas at Brainfeeder have made Mary Anne Hobbs' Sonar set available on their site. As strong a selection as you'd expect from the queen of the scene, with artists such as Reso, Starkey, Pinch, Skream, Martyn and Mala (full tracklisting here)

Plus here's the Joker set from Sonar too, but no tracklisting unfortunately.

Widdler has been busy finishing up the recording of his deep and dark concept album called Origin and will also be releasing some of his older tracks such as Go Ask Alice on a louder, meaner, and more party oriented album. Hopefully he should also be dropping Froggy Style within the next few months with remixes from Zeno, hd4000 and Tekstep remixes.

Don't know much about Sub-Universe or Prepare To Meet Thy Broom. But this track has been described as 'like a Commodore on crack', which is good a reason as any to post it up.

Not Too Wobbly

Forensics always seems to know when we’re working late, and manages to provide the perfect accompaniment. Chilled, deep and falling mainly in the Dubstep region, but without sitting on the wobbly fence this new mix is the perfect introduction to his new Mini Album The Horror and the Glory which you can pick up on Digital Tunes or Additech. This mix also features our very own Stagga with Freight Dub which shall be dropping on Rag & Bone next month along with Sick As Sin which is blowing up about now and Predatory Control Freeks which Mary Anne Hobbs gave a good rinsing last year. Will remind you nearer the time of course.
