The man on so many peoples lips at the moment brings his first album to the table on Mad Decent the label run by Diplo. I know that some internet forum warriors opinion on his recent releases have be coming in from all angles but who listens to those guys anyway, eh?
If you know Rusko and his music you should know at this stage that recently he is not afraid to take risks and OMG is no exception. He seems to want to show listeners that is still having fun with his production, while still trying to have something for the people that are not full on electronic purists. He also manages to find a way to a show some of the sounds that influence him.
The production, as to be expected from him is spot on. This can't even be brought in question to be honest. There are moments on OMG that make you think "what's going on here?" but they still manage to gel with the album. As an album, this works very well but I'm not so sure how some tracks would have stood up for Rusko to release as individual tracks. One thing this album shows us is versatility as a producer of both underground bass music and of modern pop music. Love him or hate him, you can't deny what Rusko does is being done very well.
David Starfire hit us up with this quadruple genre splicing mash up, not really a stomper but could work as a dope intro build up. Big tunes abound plus he's added a touch of his Indian flavour to the mix too.
Speaking of Mr Starfire, we have to say we're most definitely feeling this promo video for top bellydancer Sharon Kihara which uses his track Sitarfire.
Picked up this gargantuan grinding remix of the classic Bad Company track from Rusko's twitterings. More like laser torpedoes fired from an Alien Submarine than the jump up space attack D&B of the original.
Representing them big, bass heavy Bwomp Beats over on the West Coast, Ev-1 hit us up with his latest Boomstep Mixtape, that kind of speaks for itself really. A well crafted mix of tracks stretching across current to classic, underground to unheard from some of our favourites such as An-ten-nae, Bassnectar, Akira Kiteshi, Mochipet, Rusko, Raffertie, Jayou, EPROM, DZ and Stagga (full tracklisting and download here).
So I see that the wider student fraternity in the UK have finally caught on to Dubstep. Whether this is a good thing or not remains to be seen.
Wednesday night saw the busiest Dubstep only event in Cardiff with a packed Glo bar bouncin' to Monkey & Stagga, Elephant and Slipperz, Magenta and what should have been Rusko, no doubt the main reason so many students had descended on the night when most Dubstep weekly struggle to muster 20 to 30 people. Rusko was ill butN Type put in a killer set as replacement and despite most of the crowds ignorance to who he was, the atmosphere was real good after only a slight booing session at being told Rusko was a no show (all respects to MC Reuben for turning them round as well), and to be honest most of the Dubstep DJs and Producers in the place were happier with the change.
Can't say the same positive things about the crowd in Bristol unfortunately. Was speaking to Superisk who tells me the crowd at Thekla on Friday were pretty usual for the city these days. Didn't even realise it was a Dubstep night til I turned up, had decided to jump off the train early on the way back from London and made my way there to find out that Virus Syndicate and Benga were both playing. All good except for the fact that the boat (yes Thekla's a boat) was rammed full of student wannabe rudeboys with the biggest fronts I've seen at a club. I couldn't believe the amount of times I heard "Yo Blud" at full volume from some middle class kid with his cap sideways, arms up in the air and cheap cocaine up his nose. This coupled with the not so aggresive students who were far too busy stumbling round in K Holes meant space was a major issue and nobody seemed to be sharing their's happily.
We ducked out early after Virus Syndicate, who were decent in an Emcees over Dubstep kinda way, rather than as a performing group, which would have been better to see in my opinion as not enough people have that style locked at the moment. But we ducked out before Benga and headed to a house party where I picked up these videos from an early morning, last ones at the party YouTube swapping session. Thought I'd share them with you lot just incase there were any you'd missed.

Second up is some of the Life4Land fellas on a bit of a squatters Hip-hop tip with SMB. Only really know Ed Cox out of Life4Land who's their co-founder and accordian player and makes crazy Gypsy Breakcore type stuff. Definitely worth looking into if that seems like you're style.

First up we've got the...
MIXES
Here's two of the best Essential Mixes from BBC Radio 1 we've hear for some time. The first was original broadcast last month but if you haven't caught it you really need to. It's Flying Lotus creating the beautifully crisp yet dirty lunar soundscapes he does so well, for 2 hours.
Next up is filthy and disgusting 'Jump Up' Dubstep from Rusko, who we're finding it hard to tell apart from Caspa these days, maybe they've finally morphed into the same person. Watch out for the remix of The Prodigy track Breathe, his very own Kate Perrydub that turns an innocent kiss into a full on lesbian porno and a little re-touch ofEastern Jamthat makes it even more evil.
Squincy Jones and Dayta from the Texas club night Speakerboxx Thursdays kept us going through a particularly heavy work load during the early hours of the morning with this live mix on the MK Ultra Show, KTRU covers a lot of the styles that we do on Chrome Kids with a few random fun bits worked in for good measure. Lastly is the latest in the excellent We Make It Good Mix Series from ultra stylish media company Shilo. This one is courtesy of Baltimore bass blasting bad man Blaqstarr. Another eclectic one as he drops in his “inspirational tunes, the music I adapt too and the artists that influence me, and a few joints I made from the durdy to air so I could make sure ya’ll heard me… “ including Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Nirvana, Outkast, Madonna and tracks he’s recorded withRye Rye and MIA. I forgot one other B word... bonkers!
This huge collabo between Canadian electro rockers MSTRKRFT and New York 'super thug' N.O.R.E. dropped back in April but now they've put together a video which manages to squeeze a shaky storyline around N.O.R.E.'s favourite topics of sex, drugs, money, gangsterism and erm... partying.
bigUP to Trailer Trasher for putting us onto this incredible new project from Mykah 9 and J The Sarge- Magic Heart Genies. This track is coming like Californian grime, and we just picked up the album which is a Hip-hop gemstone.

Now seems I might be on my own here as I'm lovin' this tune at the moment but it seems that everyone else who I've played it to so far seems to think it's wrong. Which yes it is a bit, the video features a bunch of roughneck looking young German's and the tune doesn't seem to get much deeper than fighting and drinking but hell, only a couple of days ago I was complaining about a lack of aggression in someone's music, and here it is on a platter. It's also damned catchy if you get past what seems to be an English speakers aversion to the German language... and no, to squash the worry that a couple of people had about the guys in this video, they are not a Neo Nazi group. The irony being that the assumption in itself is a bit racist. Let me know what you think of this though, I'm honestly interested and bigUP to Schakkerhart for putting us onto him.

First up, here's another great new Electro-Funk tune from Old Money's Scareapeutic project which drops Monday.
Suso have just put up a fantastic 'cross media project' with members of LuckyMe which features some exclusive new remixes from Dema, Mike Slott, The Blessings and Jay Prada. Here's a couple of our choice cuts but you should head over to their site and check out the rest of the project.
And RCRD LBL just put up a Count of Monte Cristal (aka Herve) remix of NASA's track Money, the original of which we put up a couple of days back. Straight jackin' electro bizness.
You gotta be quick for this one if you're in Vienna... it's tonight! But well worth it with a solid line up which includes some Chrome Kids faves such as Sterotyp, Al Haca and Dorian Concept.
And in Bristol we're gonna be reaching out to this Crazylegs party in the New Year with: Starkey, Philladelphia Dubstep don and one of Mary Anne Hobbs' Generation Bass; Dexplicit the producer of one of Grime's biggest anthems 'Pow' and now rinsing it in the Bassline house scene; and our main man Raffertie, the bonkers Brum based beat butcherer; plus whole heap of local dons including The Kelly Twinsand our good friend Ben One.
