Tenuous link number 89.7. Tonight in the UK is Guy Fawkes night, otherwise known as Fireworks night or Bonfire night thanks to the consentual pyromania that sweeps the nation. Back in 1605 Guy Fawkes and his Catholic homies tried to blow up the Houses Of Parliament whilst the Protestant King James I and his bredren were all inside. The Houses Off Parliament nowadays (and we have it on no authority back then as well) are chaired by The Speaker, kind of a referee for politicians. So we have, in celebration of this historic occasion, a bunch of tunes to blow ya speakers the f**k up!


Next Tuesday sees the release of Elucid's brand new album, The Sub Bass Diet with a mixture of original production and choice dubs by the likes of Kode 9 and Joker, all laced with Elucid's poetically exorcised frustrations. We were real excited when we heard one of our favourite Brooklyn rappers had hooked up with one of our favourite Welsh producers Metabeats and the excitement was well founded, Take Charge is sheer fiiiiyaah! We hear there's more from the two on Metabeats album that should be out early next year. DN3 does similar justice on the latest leak from the album too, you can feel the unplugged rage spilling from the mic to the mixing board.

Even those who can't remember the days when Jungle was king and Navigator was one of it's mightiest warriors, or even later before Big Beat became Breaks and Freestylers were second only to Fatboy Slim as it's main exponents. Even if you have no memory of such things (and to be honest most who were actually there probably have a hazy reccolection at best) you will no doubt have heard the monster tune that is Ruffneck from Freestylers and Navigator that first dropped over 10 years ago. What? Still no? Well it matters not because a new remix from Ctrl Z relies on more than simple nostalgia to rock a crowd. Already getting play from the likes of Stanton Warriors, Krafty Kuts, Freq Nasty, Deekline and of course the Freestylers themselves, their version will be dropping on Vinyl along with an Excision & Datsik Dubstep remix on November 23rd with a digital package including further mixes from High Rankin, Bassline crew Pirate Soundsystem and this one from Rack n Ruin.

With us already being fans of Raffertie's very own brand of Bonkers Bassline it was intriguing to say the least when we heard he was turning his hand to more Hip-hop based beats. We weren't disappointed when he dropped us the mighty Hulk Hop style refix for Foamo's Wardance and it has had some major rotation from us since. Now those kind fellas over at ScenexScience have made it available so that even those of you most recession hit may wash your cares away in a big wave of glitchy killer bee bass music.

Incidentally it was on a Raffertie remix that we first heard Scarlet Harlots who, if there is an ounce of justice in the music industry deserve to be huge. As we witnessed at Bigger Than Barry a couple of months, they're the perfect blend of good honest party rock, underground dance music and credible pop music, without any of the obvious contrivance one might expect from such a winning formula. Their track A Secret came out last month on Bigger Than Barry's own imprint with dope remixes from: Shorterz, who brings us Midget House 'an amalgamation of House, Garage and Electro' and also joins compadre Enigma on a Dubstep flex; and Kitch N Sync who flip a filthy Fidget version. We're a little late on this but the simple fact that we're not already over-run by these fellas on every station shows there's work to be done before justice is served.

Finally, at the risk of renaming this site, Foreign Bloggers we have a remix of yet another Beggars track, and yes once again it's huge. Representing them big, bass heavy Bwomp Beats over on the West Coast, Ev-1 hit us up with his latest Boomstep Mixtape, that kind of speaks for itself really. A well crafted mix of tracks stretching across current to classic, underground to unheard from some of our favourites such as An-ten-nae, Bassnectar, Akira Kiteshi, Mochipet, Rusko, Raffertie, Jayou, EPROM, DZ and Stagga (full tracklisting and download here).

We rolled in force down to Fabric in London on Friday to add some extra legs on the dancefloor for Stagga's set in the Rag & Bone room alongside Raffertie, Kanji Kinetic, noyeahno and Warlock. Some heavy sets from all which pretty much kept us posted in that room except for getting lost on the way to the bar / toilet / smoking area a few times and getting kinda nutty to DJ Hype tearing it down in one of the other rooms.

Next night we touched down at Cardiff's new regular club gathering for all things dutty, electronic and bass heavy, Music By Numbers, which also saw Raffertie's first visit to the city with appearances from the likes of Foamo, Mumdance, Schlacthofbronx, Detboi, Toddla T and Squire Of Gothos all lined up for the future.

As good an excuse as any to post these two recent mixes from the big bouncing ball of banging bonkers beats that is Raffertie. The first was posted on the Fabric First blog as a promo for the night and the other was recorded for Rob Da Bank & Friends on BBC Radio 1 a couple of weeks back.

We've been a bit hectic here at Chrome Kids HQ this week so thought we should give you just a quick catch up of the things that we've been feeling recently that we've been meaning to put up. Some of them you may well have found elsewhere by now but if not... download that isht!

First up we've got the...

Here's two of the best Essential Mixes from BBC Radio 1 we've hear for some time. The first was original broadcast last month but if you haven't caught it you really need to. It's Flying Lotus creating the beautifully crisp yet dirty lunar soundscapes he does so well, for 2 hours.

Next up is filthy and disgusting 'Jump Up' Dubstep from Rusko, who we're finding it hard to tell apart from Caspa these days, maybe they've finally morphed into the same person. Watch out for the remix of The Prodigy track Breathe, his very own Kate Perry dub that turns an innocent kiss into a full on lesbian porno and a little re-touch of Eastern Jam that makes it even more evil.

Samo Sound Boy, one half of Seattle based duo Risky Business put this style hoppin’, time travelling mix up on Turntable Lab earlier this year and is now giving it out for free to anyone silly enough not to pick it up the first time. A truly fun mix that glides between Blaqstarr, New Order, M.I.A., Elephant Man, Felix Da Housecat and The Jets with ease.

Lastly is the latest in the excellent We Make It Good Mix Series from ultra stylish media company Shilo. This one is courtesy of Baltimore bass blasting bad man Blaqstarr. Another eclectic one as he drops in his “inspirational tunes, the music I adapt too and the artists that influence me, and a few joints I made from the durdy to air so I could make sure ya’ll heard me… “ including Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Nirvana, Outkast, Madonna and tracks he’s recorded with Rye Rye and MIA. I forgot one other B word... bonkers!

This huge collabo between Canadian electro rockers MSTRKRFT and New York 'super thug' N.O.R.E. dropped back in April but now they've put together a video which manages to squeeze a shaky storyline around N.O.R.E.'s favourite topics of sex, drugs, money, gangsterism and erm... partying.

bigUP to Trailer Trasher for putting us onto this incredible new project from Mykah 9 and J The Sarge- Magic Heart Genies. This track is coming like Californian grime, and we just picked up the album which is a Hip-hop gemstone.

Now seems I might be on my own here as I'm lovin' this tune at the moment but it seems that everyone else who I've played it to so far seems to think it's wrong. Which yes it is a bit, the video features a bunch of roughneck looking young German's and the tune doesn't seem to get much deeper than fighting and drinking but hell, only a couple of days ago I was complaining about a lack of aggression in someone's music, and here it is on a platter. It's also damned catchy if you get past what seems to be an English speakers aversion to the German language... and no, to squash the worry that a couple of people had about the guys in this video, they are not a Neo Nazi group. The irony being that the assumption in itself is a bit racist. Let me know what you think of this though, I'm honestly interested and bigUP to Schakkerhart for putting us onto him.

Think some bastard might have stolen Wednesday. Or one of those mid-week days that could quite easily be slipped into time's pocket and stowed away to create longer weeks for workers. This might be a good thing for those who already count down the days til the weekend, maybe you already noticed but just weren't willing to say anything. Either way I hope you're happy cos the week's been cut short and once again it's Friday. We didn't even tell you about last Friday's Radioclit gig in Birmingham.yet. Well that's probably blown it, there's far too much to look forwards to in a weekend to start reminiscing about what's already happened on previous ones so in brief.

To be honest, didn't actually manage to catch Radioclit. Who cares though whenRaffertie was taking care of the back room with a jump around, wave your hands in the air and spill your drinks every where like you just don't care type set. Sonically surfing from: Old Skool Rave; to Garage pitched up around the 146bpm mark; to the kind of Dubstep that makes you nod your head so hard you look like a constipated turkey; and into some jump up Jungle. Anybody who's heard his fantastic productions might already have some insight into his teeth clenchingly good blend of bonkers, basslines and bad man. For those who don't (and well okay for those who do still) here's his brand new remix of 'The Hive' by Rogue Element. Watch out though, this is like an attack by Cyborg Killer Bees with Chainsaws, in the best possible way.

Well I left a few goodies for you as I’m off to Bestival for the weekend but I can’t leave without a little something for the Dubstep fiends. Last week I mentioned the Philly DJ called Starkey, well if anyone tuned into his show on Sub FM a couple of days ago they would have heard a sick (‘and getting sicker by the day’) new tune by Raffertie called Wobble Horror which comes like a hardcore rave on the Starship Enterprise and is one of my favourite dubz of the year so far. It will be out soon as part of the Antisocial EP on Slit Jockey so make sure you keep your ears to the ground for that one.

First I heard of Raffertie was the Toast remix of his track ‘Antisocial’ which starts like it should be a garage tune than drops off the Richter scale with a sound that isn’t too far removed from an emcee battle between mutant space frogs…what you’ve not heard that? Well it’s down below so you can see what I mean. Also included another Toast track which is a more paced out and thoughtful affair.
