In the latest show we have some killer combos as Suzi Analogue + Tokimonsta join forces to unleash their Analogue Monsta album on the world and Jessie Boykins III + Melo-X give us a taster of their upcoming collaboration on Ninja Tune. On the remix tip: Shlohmo takes on his Friends Of Friends label mates LOL Boys; Iamnobodi revisits a brilliant Quadron track from 2009; and Welsh Garage don Didz switches up Monky's 'Free Air'. Plus as always there's a few new ones from established favourites such as Throwing Snow, B.Lewis and Chrome Sparks plus tons of new artists on our radar. You can also check out the forthcoming single from our boys Bodhi which is out on Push & Run early next month.

As always there were many tunes we loved but simply couldn't fit into an hour show. Here's a few of those:

This fortnight's show has a bunch of great remixes: Exeter fiddles with Sizarr, ARP101 touches up Slugabed, Face & Heel tweak Py's buttons a litle and our very own Bodhi gets full on Shades of Grey with The xx. Plus some new artists on the radar such as Julien Mier, Alis and Tere$▲jenee, some new faves in Two Inch Punch, Ango, Rain Dog and Rudi Zygadlo, topped off with some rapping from Childish Gambino, Ruffest (alongside LV) and Ty + Akua Naru on Shuko's superb soulful tribute to Amy Winehouse.

Also, here's a few of those tunes from the show that you can grab for free download.

Plus as a bonus have this free download of Gweno from our friends Them&Us (aka Killa Kela and Amy Carmine) that was a little too hype for this show this time but worth checking still. You can also check a Stanton Warriors remix of one of their own tracks here.

Do Androids Attend Electric Sheep?

Good Monday people, hopefully you will have recovered from this Weekend's festivities in tine for the coming Bank Holdiay weekend, as we are programming an event at Cardiff Arts Institute from Friday to Sunday. Many of the acts playing will be recognisable to our regular readers and if you are anywhere near the vicinity would be great to see you all. Here's the info...

ELECTRIC SHEEP WEEKENDER
Friday 27th - Sunday 29th May 2011 (Bank Holiday Weekend)
Cardiff Arts Institute, 29 Park Place. CF10 3BA
£4 per day (limited £6 passes for all 3 days)

3 SECRET HEADLINERS // DOC DANEEKA + BENJAMIN DAMAGE (LIVE) // MONKY (HOYA HOYA / ROBOX NEOTECH) // DIDZ & CHICO (TEN THOUSAND YEN) // RATCATCHER // TELEGRAM FROM THE QUEEN (JUVENILE SCUM) // MR HEALAN // DAI VERSE (DIVERSE CONCEPTS) // CHROME KIDS // ZWOLF // OWAIN K // STD // DISCORD // KOVAS (64 BARS) // MAXX ROACH //

The Welsh Electronic scene has truly coming into it’s own over the past few years. As musical genres overlap and intertwine, particularly after the Bass music scene in general’s mass migration from formulaic Dubstep, so Wales’ tight knit community of producers and DJs become ever closer, more open and undoubtedly stronger. As celebration of this fact we have brought some of the top artists from the scene together for a long Bank Holiday weekend of showcases, secret sets and a whole lot of drinking and dancing.

We have 3 Secret headliners, all well established acts at the top of their game, plus: Modeselektor’s label signings Doc Daneeka and Ben Damage showcase their new live set ahead of their Melt! Festival debut in Berlin; one of the city’s most forward thinking producers, Monky gets set to show why his future blend of bass heavy beats have been getting so much love across the electronic music world; Cardiff 2 Step tearaways Didz & Chico bring a little ‘something new’ to the table; Chrome Kids drop a rare appearance ahead of shows in Glastonbury and Bestival over the summer; experimental circuit benders Zwolf, STD and Mr Healan step out of the Hip-hop shadows into something altogether more interesting; former CRST member Ratcatcher (Rodski) and Owain K hold it down for the current generation of House producers; whilst Juvenile Scum head honchos and Dirty Sanchez DJs Telegram From The Queen, to quote Redman, ‘come to throw a little mud in this mother**ker’ and make sure proceedings don’t get too serious. With many more up and coming DJs and producers, just starting to cement their reputations as ones to watch also on the bill, this is undoubtedly going to be a great marker on where the scene is now and where it’s heading. There’s plenty more information on each act, as well as free downloads, streaming tracks and videos over at the Cardiff Arts Institute blog http://cardiffartsinstitute.org

More info can be found on the Cardiff Arts Institute Website.

Cold Soul, Warm Heart

Although we may be slightly biased due to their support of our family members, the RoboxNeotech label never fails to satisfy, and they’ve smashed it once again with the new EP from Russian/Siberian crew, Demokracy. Like all RoboxNeotech releases there’s the feeling of little machine babies being born and slowly opening their eyes into a strange world of humans. As the track’s name might suggest, it’s cold, like Narnia under the Snow Queen but with a warm sub that heats up your insides from the bottom of the soul to the tip of your strings. This can also be said of the Bass Science remix except he brings elements of mutant rave to the proceedings whilst Monty Clunk come with some drunken cyber-step, puking out circuits like it’s just downed 20 pints of battery acid. All are definitely worth picking up, but the fellas are offering out this moody little low-riding Glitch hop number from Dies Irae as a freebie taster.

Download: Demokracy - Wintermute (Dies Irae Remix)

Still on a winter vibe, this garage-esque track from Hackman has everything right for the season: Warmth; chills; reflection; depth; stillness; but with a driving pulse that beats a path, full steam to spring. First caught him on Fabric’s (should bloody well be) seminal Elevator compilation and it is they whom are offering this out, along with the information that you may catch him in the club’s Room 3 on Fri Jan 14th alongside such luminaries as Horsepower Productions, El-B, Oris Jay and Seiji.

Download: Hackman - Fists Of Ham

And finally, as vocalists finally catch onto the fact that producers have been steaming ahead of them on the underground circuit, the latest in a line of ones to watch (and rightly so), Alex Clare is offering up his latest track 'Relax My Beloved', for free download from his Myspace page. This is incredibly heart warming / breaking electronic encased blues and soul stuff and we’re definitely interested to hear the Diplo & Switch produced long player that’s due out on Island this year.

Healan Power

Anybody keeping an eye towards the goings on of our Mixcloud page would have noticed this rather fine mix of Future Funk flavours from our Cardiff bredren Mr Healan, who was one of the number of acts from the city featured on Starkey's recent Sub FM show (the Philadelphia phuture trooper has also been bigging up the city in his Facebook feed - see we told you our hometown was doing it).

We’ve had an eye on Mr Healan’s productions for a while and it certainly seems that he’s found a perfect home in the current climate. Starting off in the Drum N Bass scene under the name Haze he was resident DJ alongside High Contrast at nights such as Silent Running and Enthusiasm. He has a great ear for subs and drum patterns and has definitely taken in the journeys of Hip-hop’s post Dilla producers as well as the current Dubstep generation. He has recently cropped up on Rinse FM, Sub FM and BBC 1Xtra and has been staking his name into the general arena like a flag in a battle zone. This mix he did for us gives a taste of his influences, innovations and collaborations. We like it very much and we think you might to. Listen above and if you're feeling it, download the whole mix below.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Think No Evil

Following on from his Drunkerdz single, our man Monky has a new EP out on Robox Neotech called A Thought which is the proverbial piss that rains down on anybody who attempts to make tunes without first processing their thought pattern through a quantum head space like our Chrome compadre... in other words this is the business! And so to celebrate Monky is giving away this free non-EP track, which Radio 1 new music Guru and Bestival Head Honcho, Rob Da Bank quite rightly said is "friggin' wicked."

Monky - Hypa Nova by Chrome Kids

Monky has also been chatting to Baobinga over at Bass Music Blog about music and other general madness. Plus he's provided them with a cracking new mix as well.

Cardiff Summer Round Up Part I

Things seem to be busy in Cardiff this summer and we've had a number of various gems from our home town which we keep meaning to post. Here's a selection of some and we shall post a bunch more on Tuesday. Hopefully you would have already caught the new Monky, Paul B and Dead Residents mixes we posted recently. If not grab them here.

A few regular readers may remember previous tracks from Cardiff based duo Shadow Law (aka Lex Umbra). Well producer / rapper Ming from the pair has just released a grimey Dubstep EP through Italian label Young NRG Productions that you can pick up now on Juno, Beatport, Dogs On Acid and Track It Down.

C.R.S.T. are fast becoming the number one Future Garage crew of choice, okay so the majority come from Barry rather than Cardiff but for arguments sake we’ll claim a 10 mile radius for our own. They have adorned many a recent mix including the opening track of Doorly’s new Reclaim The Dancefloor CD. They’ve also provided bubblin hot remix of the new Count & Sinden track featuring the Mystery Jets that Annie Mac recently posted on her site as a free download. Here’s that tune along with their latest mix and a few extra bits and pieces. Make sure you look out for their forthcoming releases on Car Crash Set, Well Rounded and Ten Thousand Yen.

Download: C.R.S.T - Dubplates 2 Mix

Tracklisting:

1. 1 4 Byron - C.R.S.T (Dubplate)
2. It's Like That (C.R.S.T. Remix) - Tuff Wheelz (Dead Speaker Office)
3. Music Takes Me Up (C.R.S.T. Remix) - Proper Villains (Nightshifters)
4. Redeye - C.R.S.T (Forthcoming Catapult Records)
5. Baduka - Chesus and Diverse Concepts (Forthcoming 10,000 Yen)
6. Ultra 64 - C.R.S.T (Forthcoming No hats No Hoods)
7. Dial The Operator - C.R.S.T (Forthcoming Well Rounded)

11. Need You - C.R.S.T (Forthcoming Well Rounded)
12. Roulette - C.R.S.T (Forthcoming 10,000 Yen)
13. Shelter (C.R.S.T. Remix) - The XX (forthcoming ???)

Undoubtedly one of our favourite rappers from the scene, Blaktrix is due to drop his long awaited album Some People Never Go Crazy at the end of this year. As a warm up he has compiled a selection of unreleased and previously vinyl only tracks into a kind of story so far ‘mixtape’ called The Houdini Footprints of Some People Never Go Crazy. These tracks include a couple of Monky and Stagga’s earlier productions and the Monky ones in particular still bang hard, have a listen for yourself then grab the whole lot from the Blaktrix Website.

Download: Blaktrix - Tek Time (produced by Monky) / alt link

Download: Blaktrix feat Vocal Recall - Trouble Trouble (produced by Monky) / alt link / video

Finally for now, although Stagga has since relocated to Berlin he still has his hands and heart deep in the area as this new killer Grime / Dubstep / Hip-hop track featuring Skamma and Joe Blow from the Squid Ninjaz shows. This is ridiculously beastly.

Suprise Suprise It's Cilla K

Much as we may lean towards the big and bassy or digitally mutated sounds, we’re suckers for a sweet soulful voice and so we’ve been loving an album we’ve come across recently by New York based French Caribbean singer Cilla K. With Philly producer / musician Junius Bervine ((Floetry, D'Angelo,Common,Pharell Williams) on the production, some of the beats have got a bigger bump than a pregnant woman with triplets but Cilla’s vocals manage to keep them all on the smooth and jazzy road throughout and the Guadeloupe lilt on her accent that shines through from time to time is most sweet indeed. You can listen to the whole album here, or download a little taster below.

Electr*c Relaxation

Once upon a time there were little things called genres. They helped to put life into little boxes and kept things organised. Particularly pleased with this was Radio 1. It let them easily explain what each of the shows were supposed to be doing and who should be listening to what. Of course John Peel paid no attention to this but that’s fine cos he was easily categorised as ‘the one who broke the rules’.

Recently however it seems that the rules have been bended, twisted and turned every which way but loose and nobody knows what’s what. Dubstep became House and Techno became Hip-hop and Jazz became Rave, then they all became some confusing hybrid of everything. So where does this leave the poor Radio 1 DJs? Gilles Peterson starts becoming Mary Anne Hobbs, Annie Mac becomes Zane Lowe and John Peel is left beyond the grave chuckling at the mayhem he helped to create and the station’s attempts to contain his efforts within just two DJs (even if they are the fantastic Huw Stephens and Rob Da Bank).

For us however it's a fantastic spectacle to see some of our favourite artists gaining exposure across the board and one such example of this is the latest selection that Alex Stevenson from Patchwork Pirates has put together for the pioneering ‘future jazz’ label Brownswood, ran by his boss and all round musical legend, Gilles Peterson.

Despite being tricky to pin down musically, it is possible to easily accept the flow and musical current that ties Brownswood Electr*c together. Most of the artists have grown out of the ‘post’ Hip-hop and ‘post’ Dubstep categories that have been wandering the internet desperately trying to find their own individual tags but failing miserably thanks to a production ethos that is more fluid than the creative juices of us lowly writers. Tribal and Tropical rhythms, Garage Step, Rave Stabs, Jazzy Synths, Soulful Vocals and the occasional gnarly Bassline all find a place on this album, often at the same time and a quality line up of guests includes current golden boys such as Mosca, Von D, Mount Kimbie, Pearson Sound (better known under his Ramadanman moniker), Shlohmo and even 16bit (who fits surprisingly well amongst the rest) along with the next wave of names on everyone’s lips such as Eliphino, George Fitzgerald and Rockwell (who we’ve only just realised is our old amigo from Cardiff, now living down in London). Very similar in atmosphere Fabric's Elevator album, this is going to be the perfect accompaniment to a blazing hot summer.

Speaking of Eliphino, we shall be heading down to check him out at the Beachbreak Live Launch Party tomorrow at CAI so have been rinsing out a few of his productions here at Chrome Mansions. He’s certainly switched up since his days at First Word Records, where he was more on a Dilla-esque Instrumental Hip-hop tip. Nowadays it seems he’s floating around the 130bpm region making the kind of deep dance tracks that sit some place between Garage, Dubstep, Broken Beat and the sort of Tribal and Tropical groove that reminds you of Carnival at dusk. Here’s a little taster plus a free download of his new Randomer & Fife remix courtesy of XLR8R.

Let Me Love You Forever by eliphino

The Floating World (Eliphino Remix) by eliphino

Download: Randomer & Fife - Slum City (Eliphino's West Green Road Remix)

Also from the Brownswood stable comes this Free EP from Ghostpoet, a Midlands artist now based in London who managed to charm his way into Gilles Peterson’s All Winners Broadcast with his blazed out poetical journeys over off kilter beats. Kind of like Galliano for the now generation, so you can see why Gilles was impressed, as are we. This introductory 4 track EP includes an appearance from ultra cool pop producer / songstress Micachu and a reworking of the classic Tribe track Electric Relaxation.

Digital Soul Seeking

We've been loving the first release due to drop on One4Ho, a new label from Mai Harper and Sophie Ruston (aka Ghettozoid). The track from Ghettozoid herself is called Seeking and is on some future garage space age flex, carrying some serious sonic depth with a fairly sinister bassline rumbling out out like a school of whales floating through the sonar system, whilst our favourite Bristolian diva Yolanda manages to add both upliftment and melancholoy, as she effortlessly stretches her rich soul vocals to the outer reaches of the universe.

Zoid Soundcloud bounce by GHETTOZOID

Our favourite mix however is from Blue Daisy with a tripped out excursion, building up a bed of a crisp static crunch and dublike echoes. As if the tune had been dropped into a K hole and managed to float around in it without confusion, paranoia or looking like a complete c**t.

BD Soundcloud bounce by GHETTOZOID

For a bit of a look inside Blue Daisy's head check out his mix for URB that we picked up at Robot Koch's Robots Don't Sleep blog recently.

Monday Mixtape Making Madness

Monday not treating you so great? Why not get all Arts & Craft and build a tiny set of decks from matchsticks, sticky backed plastic and bottle lids then place your MP3 player underneath out the way but plugged up to your computer speakers (if you have battery powered ones all the better). Dig out your favourite action figure from the box in the attic to act as a DJ, head out into the garden and use these handy mixtapes as sets to play to all the insects... they'll love it.

Or you could just sit at the computer and listen to this fine selection from Bullion (crate digging, chin stroking and beautiful); 1000names (futuristic, head nodding and seriously left of Saturn); or OM Unit (phat, funkalicious and full of All City releases past present and future, including his very own Lightgrids just released on the label) , they'll sound just as good but it's not quite as fun.

Move Out The Bludclart Monday Mixtapes

Right as we come out fighting to face the week with dubz in hand and a slew of chaos in the weekend wake, here's some extra armoury for the eardrums. First two are part ones in what we hope will continue into long and illustrious mixtape dynasties. We have the Lowriders Collective season with the pilot episode courtesy of Coco Bryce and future mixes from the likes of Slugabed, Débruit and Hovatron to look forwards to; Second is a touch more partytastic from Shorterz and kicks of the Bigger Than Barry Records Mixtapes whilst the third and well the fourth too are 2 major mash up journeys from the The Kleptones (who had the Beastie Boys / Prodigy combo on our last mix), one full rock out and another more introspective and chilled.
