Segilola - Somewhere Along The Line from silent tapes on Vimeo.

Another beautiful excursion into Segilola's new EP on King Deluxe. Once again this is produced by Bambooman and proves that their first collaborative single wasn't just a fluke.

New video from soulful electronic duo, K.Raydio and Psymun, whose beautiful debut album, LucidDreamingSkylines was a late entry for one of last year's best releases. Still fresh so if you haven't caught it yet then peep the video and head over to their Bandcamp.

Suiting video for this track as it would provide the perfect soundtrack for a night time drive through the city. Why not try it out, and if you don't drive or live in the city then just sit in a friends car, play the video on an iPad and place it on the dashboard. Definitely intend to keep an eye on Tyson McVey (Neneh Cherry's daughter) and Shaun Savage aka PANES.

Bambooman has been a fringes favourite of ours for a while now but London based Segilola is a new artist for us, one we're more than grateful to King Deluxe for introducing us to and releasing this stunning single, due out in the new year.

Hoping that the rest of her tracks and production choices stand up to this, certainly look forwards to hearing more.

Kaptin Is Dead - Reflections 2012 by Kaptinisdead on Mixcloud

We haven't done any 'best of' this year but Kaptin has put together a 'reflection selection' for 2012. Here's what he said about it.

"As I enter the final stages of the roller coaster ride that was 2012 I've left little time to consider a 'best of mix' really, with such a good year for music it might possibly last til 2014 anyway. However whilst in Studio 2 of Radio Cardiff I put together this selection of tunes that owe more to the reflective nature of the year's end. No fancy mixing or tricks just some incredible tunes from 2012 played pretty much in their entirety. Hope you enjoy them as much as I have."

Actually the Tensnake remix of Ritual Union came out in 2011 but we'll let him off this once because it was still a great tune in 2012.

Metabeats feat. Dubbledge - EyeSeeYou

As always, there were a few tracks put aside for the show which we just couldn't fit into the final 58mins. We never like to keep tracks til the next fortnight as there's always so many to choose from anyway, so here's a selection of those that we had to miss.

Some warm and jazzy autumnal Soul from Canadian singer Claire Mortifee, produced by Nick Wisdom & AstroLogical aka Potatohead People. This track also features on their excellent 3rd EP out on Jellyfish Recordings, whose other guests include rappers Moka Only and Frank Nitt (Frank N Dank).

Some more soulful vibes from Canada. This track by Vlooper is taken from his recent 'Snowloops' album and also features his wife Modlee. You can grab the album for any price you feel is right below.

Actually now listening back to this Breezy Lovejoy album, it's even more surprising that we didn't play anything from it. Again we're very much still on the Neo-Soul vibe but with that extra kick that keeps it fresh and exciting. You can also pick up the LA based singer / rapper / drummer's first album for free here.

We were possibly judging the whole Chief Navaho album by some of it's dodgier singing excursions so unfairly overlooked this one until it was too late. The rest of the album has some other golden moments but some of the sung vocals do come off rather sketchy at times.

Despite the fact it didn't quite initially grab us we did keep on getting pulled back to this one. It's a track whose charm grows with each listen too.

Anybody keeping an eye towards the goings on of our Mixcloud page would have noticed this rather fine mix of Future Funk flavours from our Cardiff bredren Mr Healan, who was one of the number of acts from the city featured on Starkey's recent Sub FM show (the Philadelphia phuture trooper has also been bigging up the city in his Facebook feed - see we told you our hometown was doing it).

We’ve had an eye on Mr Healan’s productions for a while and it certainly seems that he’s found a perfect home in the current climate. Starting off in the Drum N Bass scene under the name Haze he was resident DJ alongside High Contrast at nights such as Silent Running and Enthusiasm. He has a great ear for subs and drum patterns and has definitely taken in the journeys of Hip-hop’s post Dilla producers as well as the current Dubstep generation. He has recently cropped up on Rinse FM, Sub FM and BBC 1Xtra and has been staking his name into the general arena like a flag in a battle zone. This mix he did for us gives a taste of his influences, innovations and collaborations. We like it very much and we think you might to. Much as we may lean towards the big and bassy or digitally mutated sounds, we’re suckers for a sweet soulful voice and so we’ve been loving an album we’ve come across recently by New York based French Caribbean singer Cilla K. With Philly producer / musician Junius Bervine ((Floetry, D'Angelo,Common,Pharell Williams) on the production, some of the beats have got a bigger bump than a pregnant woman with triplets but Cilla’s vocals manage to keep them all on the smooth and jazzy road throughout and the Guadeloupe lilt on her accent that shines through from time to time is most sweet indeed. Not sure if we quite made it in time to still be included as Monday, but f**k it, some place in the world is having a Monday right now so here you go. We got something a little different for you hear but if ever there was a reason to rip up the rule book, it's Pete Lawrie. This muti-talented, multi-instrumentalist, singer / songwriter will be no stranger to regular readers and here he gives a slight nod back to his days as a Hip-hop DJ / Producer, although this is perhaps a world away (despite a touch of Roots Manuva up in there). And seeing as we're steppin' into that Gilles Peterson / Ross Allen type territory with these it's a good excuse to drop a couple of Seiji tracks aimed at the other end of the dancefloor, some dope Broken Beatish bounce alongs. Now I know there's some emcees out there that could jump on these and bring a bit more of our flavour to them, you might even find a few more over at his blog too.

Quite a jazzy, soulful affair for us Kids but lovin' the swing on this dreamy little slice of North London Street Funk from Eglo Records' new signing Shuanise Odunaiya, who says her music "is a fusion of everything I love: synth sounds, heavy bass, high frequencies, African choirs, crackling vinyl & talking drums". That could be why we love it too.

So you've got the object of your desire back to the manor and its blatantly gonna be on. You fix a couple of drinks, dim the lights but then you have a dilemma. What music do you put on? Sorry but gone are the days when you could just press play on the R Kelly cassette and let the wiley crackhead paedophile provide the soundtrack to your bumpin' and grindin', so what's the solution? Well there's no doubting that Hudson Mohawke is one of the slow-glitch kings and he has compiled a fine selection of 80s souls smoochers here in his second Valentines mixtape, however this can only be played in any romantic situations with extreme irony (hence the Gunshots throughout I guess). Just incase you didn't realise that we waited til a couple of days after Valentines to put this up, it's for your own good you realise. Now pass me another glass of Babycham and I'll try to figure out how to keep the strawberries in place with this damned cream running so much.
