Our amigos Don Leisure and Metabeats aka Darkhouse Family dropped a great little mixtape for the Friends Of Friends site. Here it is with a bit of blurb from the crew...

“Darkhouse Family is the product of many smokey studio hours shared by Don Leisure & Metabeats… Linking up in late 2007 the duo gelled quickly over a shared musical heritage of hiphop and uk club culture and a loose beat tape project began to grow. This later turned into DHF after the old chopped up soul sample sound was replaced by a more synthed out, smoked out & synthetic sound that the group is known for… The Family Trees EP on Fat City Recordings put Darkhouse on the map with solid DJ support from Martyn, The Gaslamp Killer, Alex Nut, Illum Sphere, Kutmah, Dibiase & more.

This mix is just a collection of some new stuff we’ve been sent and are feeling and some of our latest beats also. One of the loose ideas of the mix was to showcase a bunch of new producers who are making dope tracks who may not be household names to everyone.

We are planning an LP in 2011 but will release some more material on Fat City hopefully this year and also undertake some remix work for Frite Nite and Jon Wayne. Don Leisure also has some solo project work on the bubble and Metabeats is set to release his 2nd LP on Associated Minds and also continues to shake skirts with his CRST project.”

Anybody keeping an eye towards the goings on of our Mixcloud page would have noticed this rather fine mix of Future Funk flavours from our Cardiff bredren Mr Healan, who was one of the number of acts from the city featured on Starkey's recent Sub FM show (the Philadelphia phuture trooper has also been bigging up the city in his Facebook feed - see we told you our hometown was doing it).

We’ve had an eye on Mr Healan’s productions for a while and it certainly seems that he’s found a perfect home in the current climate. Starting off in the Drum N Bass scene under the name Haze he was resident DJ alongside High Contrast at nights such as Silent Running and Enthusiasm. He has a great ear for subs and drum patterns and has definitely taken in the journeys of Hip-hop’s post Dilla producers as well as the current Dubstep generation. He has recently cropped up on Rinse FM, Sub FM and BBC 1Xtra and has been staking his name into the general arena like a flag in a battle zone. This mix he did for us gives a taste of his influences, innovations and collaborations. We like it very much and we think you might to. Listen above and if you're feeling it, download the whole mix below.

Mr Healan will also be playing alongside Blue Daisy, Benjamin One, Monky & Kaptin at our 2nd Birthday party this Friday, but more info on that tomorrow.

Our boy Mikee Woo has been putting in work on the Cardiff club scene for time now and has just set up a new Tuesday night at Buffalo called Signature that is set to make us very happy. This Tuesday coming (1st June) he's got New York Future Garage master Falty DL in the place so we've been busting out his tracks full volume here at Chrome Mansions to get us over hyped. Plus there's support from Don Leisure, Mr Healan and Paul B so looks like the Bank Holiday weekend has just been extended to Wednesday.

We've been running round like a bunch of mad March hares for the last month or so and we've taken our eye off the ball a few times. One particular ball just hit us in the face when we realised that the March mix we had off our amgio Don Leisure has slipped into April. We're not the most respectful of rules or time however and this mix will remain fresh for many moons to come so for your listening pleasure...

When compiling our Monday Mixtapes we scandalously overlooked this one from our boys Don Leisure and Metabeats aka Darkhouse Family, who shall be dropping a 12" on Fat City mid April some time.

This mix also contains the future garage track Baduka from Metabeats' alter ego Chesus and fellow Barry dweller Diverse Concepts which we posted earlier and is looking at getting a release sometime soon through Ten Thousand Yen.

It's amazing what you find whilst floating through the Soundclouds.

Teleport Massive (Robot Koch Remix) by robot koch

Don Leisure returns with a new mix of the month, featuring bags of funk and soul added to the clunk click glitch fuzz of the LA, Detroit and Glasgow post Hip-hop schools of music. Includes a new tune from the man himself which is perhaps fittingly dedicated to the LA Lakers forward and Clippers General Manager Elgin Baylor (see / hear below).

ELGIN BAYLOR v1 by Don Leisure

It's rare indeed that we'll post any straight up Drum N Bass tracks, but what with us being all up in Knowledge Mag and dropping a DnB tune in our mix from Baobinga & ID that you might not have expected and two straight up Jungle offerings from both Count & Sinden and Stagga (which may find it's way into the blogosphere soon), it seems like the perfect time to drop these exlusives on your eardrums from Jamal.

This tune has been floating about for a while on BBC 1Xtra and mixes from the likes of Infiltrata (aka West Coast Dubstep don 12th Planet) but until now has never properly seen the light of day, despite much nagging. Don't let the name and floaty eastern sounding samples fool you, this is some dangerous bass heavy tear out bizness indeed.

Download: Jamal - Blossom (Rolling Mix v.1) / alt link

Jamal has been in the studio cooking up some new tracks but his Jeckyl and Hyde style alter ego Don Leisure is keeping his side of things pretty much locked down at the moment, with his Darkhouse Family project alongside Metabeats gaining much love from the likes of Waajeed, Gaslamp Killer, Illum Sphere and Martyn, plus radio plays on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra amongst many. The first official taster from that should come on Volume 2 of Fat City's fairly seminal Producer compilation out next month. Check the incredible full line up for that here.

If you need to mellow out after all that jumping about then maybe this might help to sooth your soul slightly. Also hailing from the Cardiff area, Easy Buffalo just hit us with this funkalicious little Gorillaz bootleg. They also have a few tracks in the pipeline with some of our favourite smoothed out Welsh rappers such as Redeye, Skunkadelic and Louis Boston, we've had a little taster and should hopefully be able to share a little something more with you all soon.

* all single track downloads on this mix have been removed for legal reasons...

As we abstained from last Monday's Mixtape session due to political reasons we have made up for it by giving you a bumper addition this week which includes: our very own Quantum cadet, Monkey with a Dubstep selection he mixed up for 3zee1's show on Sub FM last week; a Take Flight Club mix from Doc Daneeka, who we first came across through his nights at the Monkey Bar in Swansea although we didn't make the link to his latest alias when we first heard Metabeats dropping some of his UK Funkier than though tracks recently; next is Metabeats' Darkhouse Family bredren Don Leisure with the first of a new monthly mix series, dropping some seriosuly tasty Liquid Soul and Future Hip-hop. We then hop over to South Africa as Liver gives us a homegrown mini mix selection from Cape Town and finally, a firm favourite of ours and the first to actually introduce us to Liver, Boom Monk Ben with a killer selection, something of a fusion of all the other mixes in one handy helping.

As promised, bit of a Monday Mixtape special this week as we bring you... Us.

We did this mix for Adam Walton's Mystery Tour show on BBC Radio Wales. Adam's been a strong supporter of many Welsh Dubstep and Hip-hop crew over time, infact he's been a strong supporter of pretty much every good Welsh band out there full stop. He let us run rampant for half an hour and this is the result. We kept it in Dubstep territory this time but with strong Hip-hop and Grime overtones. Starting with the big bass monsters, smoothing out a touch then getting twisted before leaving you on a high note. With a couple of original productions from crew members Monkey & Stagga.

Have a listen, let us know what you think. If you want to book us for a DJ set email Adam at C23Management@hotmail.com - we'd love to come rock your party.

Also the guys over at Size? Cardiff have an exclusive mix from the man like Don Leisure featuring some of his very own VIPs and a bunch of classic tracks from the likes of Afta 1, Hudson Mohawke, Waajeed, MF Doom, Dam Funk and Harmonic 313. Pick it up here.

Our man Metabeats has been mightily busy of late. As well as the soon to come Sledgehammer Kisses EP with Mudmowth and the new album from his clique Squid Ninjaz for which he's provided a number of beats, and even a few rhymes, he's also been setting dancefloors on fire with the Chesus & Rodski stuff and is working on a new solo album, for which information is scarce but we do know that Elucid makes an appearance or two in there some place and no doubt some of the other Squid Ninjaz and Associated Minds family will find there way in there too.

On top of all this he's found time to drop us this small slice of Dillafied future soul, new beat generation type business. You can grab the wav here or a 320 MP3 below.

If this is your flavour then the track is also included in this BBC Radio 1 mix from Don Leisure who is also collaborating with Metabeats on yet another project under the Darkhouse Family moniker and who, as his Drum & Bass alias Jamal has just hit us up with one of the filthiest half time D&B tracks we've heard in a while in the shape of Untitled Stink which you can check on his Myspace.

After tearing up the Drum & Bass scene for years as Jamal, with big tracks on Ganja Tek and Rufige, one of our extended family Don Leisure has been busy in the lab making some incredible Dubstep and off key soul inflected Hip-hop. Here's a taster he's dropped us of some of that latter 'Jerky Soul' style.
