DJ Cable - BBC 1Xtra Guest Mix for CJ Beatz (1st August 2011)

Massive shout out to my boy CJ Beatz, who recently gave the chance to put together a guest mix for his R&B Mix show on BBC 1Xtra.

For those not in the know, he does a weekly feature called "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life", which showcases some of the best DJ-ing talent around the UK.

My mix comprises of recent Hip Hop, along with some R&B classics, Grime, and some remixes from the likes of Rustie & Hudson Mohawke. It was recorded in one take using 1200s and Serato Scratch Live.

DJ Cable - 2011 Valentines Mix

So, here's a quick mix that I put together for this year's Valentines Day.

Rather than do another generic Slow Jams mix, this time around I've selected a bunch of love-themed Dubstep & Grime tunes (yes, they do exist!), alongside a healthy dose of misogynistic Hip Hop & Booty Bass in the latter half of the mix, plus a cheeky bootleg, and some material that's forthcoming on Triangulum!

The result? A mish mash of everything from JME, to Wiley, Three 6 Mafia, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, DJ Assault, Necro, Dizzee Rascal, Borgore, Ruckspin, Chromeo and more!

PURPL PoP - The Way (Video / Warrior One Remix)

We posted this video from Swedish Electro pop funsters Purpl Pop a while back but the single is now out on Fat! Records, who are also giving away this hypetastic UK Funky-esque Warrior One remix.

Superturbo Charged Tunes

We love the fact that Superturbo have decided to appropriate a Hanson video for their track Время кромсает as it pretty much highlights everything they aren't. One is cheesy, chirpy, American pop whilst the other is edgy, emotional, Russian Glitch hop. We first caught them on Mary Anne Hobbs show last week and although it's tricky to gauge much info when you have the language capacity of a Glasweigan drunkard, the tunes pretty much speak for themselves.

Sharply Re-Drest

Love the classic Electro sound on the original of this Mochipet track which features rhymes from oonceoonce & Eriksolo of Meanest Man Contest, but here it gets a full on Electro Breaks re-working from New York producer A-ux

This Is How They Do

Funny but if you'd told us a few years back that Hip House would return, and what's more we'd love it, we might not have held your preminition in high regards. But now it seems like it might be the only way to really save artists like The Game and 50 Cent. Anyone who was feeling the DJ Wool remix we posted up a couple of days back will no doubt bug off this little Electro House rub of How We Do from Bronx crew The Conquistadors ... We did.

Time 4 Troublemaker

After already dropping some of our most heavily rotated mixtapes in the shape of No Wine, Just Women and Your Face, Hollyrock hot stepper Troublemaker shows off his party startin' skills once again on his latest installment, simply titled 4. Classics meet crazy underground dance floor destroyers as Hip-hop, Electro and House get worked into a whole Troublesome mélange that let you know why he's been rockin' spots from the Manifest Hope party at Barack Obama's inauguration celebrations to Governor Schwarzenegger’s birthday party. If you're on the West Coast you can catch Troublemaker at his residencies: Wasted Space in the Hard Rock Hotel (Las Vegas); and Benders (Denver, CO and San Diego).

A Big Hello From DJ Wool

Love the Timbaland produced original of this from the Kizzaland Mixtape (mixed by Nick Catchdubs). This refix from Berlin's DJ Wool changes the vibe up, turning it into a somewhat brooding Electro House track. More feet to the floor than hands in the air but dope none the less.

If you want to check out Izza Kizza's mixtape can download it for free over here.

Come Out To Play(doe)

Gonna be playing a couple of dates with Playdoe over the next couple of weeks. Definitely one of our favourite groups (see interview here) and we were mightily upset when we were stopped from playing their thought provoking yet damned funky cover version of a Seun Kuti track The Bombs by the over sensitive BBC powers that be. We were also stopped from playing an Astrosnooze remix of the track Bomb Threat by This Is Radio Freedom. The references to bombs was deemed insensitive with the situation in Gaza happening??!! If anything I think tracks like The Bombs should be played even more but unfortunately we had to put up with that horrible feeling of being helplessly gagged. If you are a DJ please give it as much exposure as possible, we have a radio edit too if you need it just get in touch.

They're currently on tour in the UK at the following places. Catch them if you can.

27 Feb - Cargo, London
28 Feb - Camden Monarch, London
1 Mar Oakford Social Club, Reading
5 Mar - Mixed Bizness @ Glasgow School of Art
6 Mar - Snafu, Aberdeen
7 Mar - The Reading Rooms, Dundee
11 Mar - Lucerna Music, Prague
12 Mar - Fuzz Club, Sheffield
13 Mar - Start The Bus, Bristol with Chrome Kids
17 Mar - Kruger Magazine @ The Social London with Chrome Kids
18 Mar - BBC Introducing @ Bar Four, Reading
19 Mar - Guilford Boiler Roon, London

607 Knows 'What Up'

Big Shout to Luminfire over at Ants In My Trance for hitting us up with this version of Crookers' What Up Y'all from rapper 607 out of Little Rock. Previous 607 tracks have apparently included samples from the likes of Röyksopp, King Crimson, Mylo, Robyn, Björk, Tangerine Dream, Zero 7, Crash Test Dummies, Britney Spears, Chicago, Fiona Apple and Basement Jaxx which definitely interests our pallettes, and this remix puts an already dope track firmly in our firing line. For more information head over to the AIMT blog.

Listen To The Scriptures

If any of you are starved by the lack of UK Hip-hop out there at the moment then you could do worse then check out Jyager, whose Encrypted Scriptures drops on 23rd March on Y'N'R. The only one we're really feeling is the track with Foreign Beggars and Kashmere (who's playing at The Globe in Cardiff alongside Verb T and The Last Skeptic on February 7th for all the heads here), but then we kinda got bored of most UK Hip-hop acts a while back (along with everybody else if sales and releases are anything to go by). This isn't gonna resurrect the scene but it might keep some of the die hards happy for a while.

JOE BLOW w/ JUNIOR DISPROL & CERVANTIS - POETRY IN MOTION

Some brand new poetic agginess from Joe Blow's heavyweight EP 'Smoking Skills'.

Don't know the full story about this video but heard some of the fellas got caught up in the middle of a fight outside a club the night before filming and the blood you can see on the towel covering Cervantis' face belongs to Joe Blow's cousin who had his ear ripped apart by a knife. Cervantis himself could barely stand as he was run over by a police car in the madness.

Where's the Jungle?

A few posts ago I put up some tracks from a producer called Stagga. Well he also has a project alongside UK Hip-hop stalwart Junior Disprol and partner in rhyme Chud Jackson by the name of Dead Residents.

They have a new album dropping called Triple Crown and this is their first video from it Scumbongo in which they team back up with Ryan Andrews, the director of their last zombie fest video Boogaloo. This time a gang of twisted Super Heroes hold court at their secret Bingo hall Headquarters. It's rare to find such good club busting digital beats under the kind of flows that Dead Residents deliver on this one and it's a breath of fresh fire indeed. Take a set of speakers down to your local zoo, slap this on and watch 'the parrots get rago' and the 'rhinos get rago.'

Queenz Bitch

Rappers Belizean Bombshell and Kween G, collectively known as Killa Queenz hail from Belize and Uganda respectively but are now settled in Sydney, Australia where they met whilst performing separately at the Olympic games and now are regularly ripping up stages alongside the likes of Bone Thugs & Harmony, The Alkaholics and Lucky Dube.

They’re just about to drop their new single (out September 9th) on Grindin (also home to Mystro, Foreign Beggars, P Money and Jehst) called ‘Bitches’, an M Phazes produced hyped up Hyphy style dedication to all ‘…the bitches out in the world (both female and male) who have hate in their hearts for no particular reason’. I’m guessing from the girls’ positive stance that this isn’t a track in favour of such people.

is a great DJ, producer, and graphic designer from Oklahoma who has done some wicked remixes for the likes of Crookers, CSS, Chromeo, Ratatat and Justice… albeit unofficial of course. He manages to tailor his style to best suit each particular song rather than simply doing vocal edits and adding a ton of distortion and his remixes range from Miami Bass & funk carioca to party electro but it’s this crunked up refix of Wine O’s 'Pop My Trunk' with Busy P that caught our Chrome ears.

(YSI) Dr Tron - Pop My Computer (Wino O Vs Busy P)

Also, if you fancy dancing round the room for half an hour with your hands making jabs in the air then check his latest mixtape Mr Flamboyant with Crookers, Wiley, Drop the Lime, Herve and Kardinal Offishall

(SS) Dr Tron - Mr Flamboyant Mixtape

Or you can visit his MySpace for some of his more electro-fied club tunes.
