Our Monday Mix

As promised, bit of a Monday Mixtape special this week as we bring you... Us.

We did this mix for Adam Walton's Mystery Tour show on BBC Radio Wales. Adam's been a strong supporter of many Welsh Dubstep and Hip-hop crew over time, infact he's been a strong supporter of pretty much every good Welsh band out there full stop. He let us run rampant for half an hour and this is the result. We kept it in Dubstep territory this time but with strong Hip-hop and Grime overtones. Starting with the big bass monsters, smoothing out a touch then getting twisted before leaving you on a high note. With a couple of original productions from crew members Monkey & Stagga.

Have a listen, let us know what you think. If you want to book us for a DJ set email Adam at C23Management@hotmail.com - we'd love to come rock your party.

It's Bigger Than...

We love getting new stuff from Kid 606's Tigerbeat6 label, because like the man himself, you never quite know what's in store but it's guaranteed to slap you in the face and make you listen. This time they've hit us up with the debut EP from French Glitch hop producer Humanleft and it's rather ginormous. It's like a big melting pot of our favourite things with elements of Acid Crunk, Ghettotech and Dubstep all in a phat bassed up, glitched out packed lunchbox of fun. You can pick up the EP from here.

Download: Humanleft - Roarr / alt link

We first heard of Cleveland Hip-hop crew Keyel after they hooked up with Flako on a blunted out excursion for their new mixtape. Now the mixtape has finally dropped in full force and it shows the fellas in fine form over a bunch of head bobbing future soul Post-Dillafied beats including this one produced by Sa-Ra.

Download: Keyel - Hanging by a String (prod. by Sa-ra Creative Partners) / alt link

Download: Keyel - Volume 1 (Mixtape)

Grayskull just hit us up with this glitched up re-rubbing of Amanda Blank' already fairly phat and filthy track. Think I prefer it to the original but then maybe I might like her's better if we slept together.

Download: Might Like You Better (Grayskull Remix ) / alt link

Maybe it's all in the name but there must be something in the water over in Boulder, Colorado cos I swear a few of our favourite Glitch hop tracks recently have been from that direction. This free EP from Denver Bass Squad member Samples is no exception. 5 and a bit beats that are crunchier and crisper than a bowl of dry cornflakes and ten times as tasty.

Download: Samples - Intercontinental Ballistic Lazer (EP)

Download: Samples - Blakka / alt link

In one of those interconnecting web jumping missions that can take days we also came across Freddy Todd out of Detroit, who has hooked up a remix for Samples in the past and has a number of his own filthy glitch ridden bass bangers currently riding round our playlist.

Download: Freddy Todd - Vespertino / alt link

Download: Freddy Todd - Ghost Dance Messiah (EP)

Our boy Ralph Rips Shit just put us on to the Mixtape that came out earlier in the year from Fresh Daily (who also has a new album that dropped last month). Some well borrowed beats from the likes of Flying Lotus, Gorillaz and Oddisee that perfectly frame his finely tuned seemingly effortless flow. Includes a heavy guest appearance from fellow New Yorker Mickey Factz (we're still looking for a 320 copy of him rhyming over Machine Gun by Portishead, hit us up if you got one).

Download: Fresh Daily - Tomorrow Is Today (Mixtape)

Download: Fresh Daily - Space Movies (Kanye West Dub) / alt link

Download: Fresh Daily - Winterfresh (Flying Lotus Dub) / alt link

On a jazzier mellow tip we just picked up this beautifully epic track from Leaving Records. It's a track from Oscar McClure who will be dropping his debut album on the LA based label in the near future. Perfect for a crisp Autumn morning.

CKFR # 5 DJ 0.000001 & Mochipet - Eazy E On Atari

Eazy E was the first to admit that he wasn’t exactly a role model. Yet that didn’t stop millions of teenagers kids all across the world looking up to the alter-ego of business brain Eric Wright and agreeing that this was indeed one gangsta muthafucka worthy of respect. Many hardcore Hip-hoppers have since cursed the day that guns, bitches and bling became one of the cornerstones of the movement, but secretly they were never directing their ill feelings towards originators such as Eazy E. Without him Ice Cube would probably still be ripping off the Beastie Boys, Dr Dre might still be wearing make-up and both Yella and MC Ren would have disappeared without trace (okay so that happened anyway but you get the drift). He carried an arsenal of guns bigger than he was, had money coming out of every orifice and pussy falling out of his pockets but still managed to donate millions to charities, and regularly took orphans on field trips. Sadly, in a cruel twist of irony, his passion for ‘pussy’ caught up with him and in 1995 he died of AIDS, leaving a bullet sized hole in the Hip-hop world, and spreading fear across anyone in LA who had neglected to use a condom recently.

Now thanks to a rare 92 accapella and the kind of electronic re-engineering that only happens to cyborgs in sci-fi movies, ‘the lunatic psycho muthafucka’ is back from the grave, on a mission of sex, death, violence and revenge, all good family entertainment as usual. Mixes come in a glitched up and bouncy style from Eprom, a juggernaut driving DJ 0.000001 mix for those long lonely highways and a huge Mochipet mash up of the two that comes stomping in like an electronic Hip-hop slaughter fest. Think Ed 209 Versus Robocop or one of the missing evil Decepticons that turns into a crunked up Monster Truck with speakers in its rims.

"That's very fucking rude!" Rob Da Bank (BBC Radio 1)

This EP is the latest in our Fre-Release series that started with a previous DJ 0.000001 track and has since included Stagga, zwolf and Th’ Mole. Look out for plenty more lined up over the rest of the year.

We're Playing Master P On Atari

The Daly City don of digitally crunked up dirt and devastation, Mochipet, is back with a new album that's more raw to the core than anything that's come before.

Where as Microphonepet was largely about big beats for the guests to ride on and to be honest Bunnies & Muffins pretty much snuck past us, Master P On Atari is all about gargantuan beats that are so in your face it would be impossible to ignore. They've literally taken over and they're pissed off, ready to trample buildings and fling trucks about. The sound is probably best described by taking random words from the track titles, such as: Hyphy; Turbo; Sumo; Robo; Crunk; Bass; Ghetto; Godzilla; and straight up Full Frontal Face Melt.

Master P On Atari is out July 4th on Daly City. Here's a track from the album...

Plus if like us you need to play catch up slightly, here's a track from the Bunnies & Muffins album, featuring the delightfully dapper genius of Daedelus.

Mini Mixing It Up

A mini mix of sub bass heavy, glitchy Hip-hop grinders here for you courtesy of Chip Chop, a live production and percussion duo made up of Graintable from Portland (OR) and AD/AM out of Lake Tahoe (CA). 10 tracks of filthiness that does kind of feel like one long and rather intense 20 minute tune, but not necessarily in a tedious way.

(YSI) Chip Chop Mini Mix / alt link

Tracklist:

00:00 - The Edinburgh
03:00 - Untitled & Unfinished
04:08 - Untitled & Unfinished
05:58 - Puking Rainbows
08:20 - Untitled & Unfinished
09:10 - Los Gorditos
13:03 - Solid Gold Nunchucks
16:00 - FPFTF
18:27 - Untitled & Unfinished
19:27 - Launch Blank

The duo are set to be featured on this summer's Motion Sickness compilation from the fantastic Run Riot Records. So if you're feeling this keep an ear out for that one.

Also on a similar tip, we have been absolutely killing a track called Beba, which is the new single from PANTyRAID (aka Glitch Mob's Ooah and West Coast compadre Marty Party) dropping on Marine Parade at the end of next month, it's B Side Get The Money is also fastly growing on us. Both of them are a touch more Dubstep then the Glitch Mob material but Beba still retains those Crunk-ish overtones, helped even further on this mini mix that featured on Mary Anne Hobbs' show a couple of weeks back by fusing it with a Lil Jon accapella.

Tracklist:

Upset / Beba Mashup (with Lil John Acapella)
Crunkalicious’
Worship the Sun’
Headcase (with Ray Cash ‘Sex Appeal’ Acapella)

We're Definitely Diggin' Th' Mole

Think I might have to install a hotline to Daly City Records if they keep up their current high level of quality output. No sooner have you finished downloading the new Flying Skulls stuff when these rather impressive gems come rolling in like Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom or something. Some may remember we put up a post with the DJ 0.000001 mixtape, Whirled Fusion. A prequel to the new album from Th' Mole which features some of the album tracks along with a mash up of medleys that saw the likes of Rush, Skream, Too Short & Wild Sugar running side by side. It eventually clicked slowly that DJ 0.000001 was infact Th’ Mole himself, another addition to a growing army of alter-egos such as: Captain Daydream; Pierre Johnson; Johnny Sunshine; Turbo Punx; and Experimental Man which punctuate his releases back to 1994.

It is perhaps surprising that within the middle of these personalities lies an endearing honesty in the music and a sound that whilst impossible to pin down, brings a punk ethos a Hip-hop attitude and the weight from the best of the new skool West Coast bass scene. His new album Greatest Hits (Ha Ha Ha) Vol. 1 is a fine combination of classics, remixes and fresh out the box which ranges from the Gypsy stompin’ of Heart Phire to the slow rolling melancholy of Sonny Boy, maintaining an off the wall eclecticism without losing its way at any point.

What’s good about Greatest Hits is it works as a whole album rather than just a loose collection of tracks, although the stand out inclusion for us is probably Jump Jack, where the first lady of Bass herself Warrior Queen orders the listener to “Jump Motherf**ker”. Makes sense then that this is the first single off the album that also comes with a dirty Breaks remix from Daly City head honcho Mochipet, if for some strange reason you weren’t jumping the first time then this mix leaves you no other choice. There’s also a Turbo Crunk remix of Heart Phire from Bearmod which completely flips it on its head, and a crazy home-made video using the Baile Funk remix of Go Horsie from Brazilian legend DJ Amazing Clay . You can grab the whole single package for free from the link below, and keep an eye out for the album dropping sometime soon.

Crunk To The Future

XLR8R.com have just uploaded a great article by Raji Sohal entitled 'Lazer Bass: Crunk to the Future'. Giving a brief and sweeping overview of the scenes in Montreal, Glasgow and California. Any fairly new fans of the music here on Chrome Kids should definitely have a read as a reasonable starting point.
