A Very Merry Dubstep Christmas

It's that time of year again... Merry Christmas to all the blog readers!

As a seasonal bonus, here are some Dubstep/UKG freebies that have put up by various producers... Skream has been a roll with his Freeizm EPs this year, and top off what's been an amazing year for both him and Magnetic Man, he's released a Freeizm LP, containing a selection of sought-after dubs.

And if that wasn't good enough, Headhunter aka Addison Groove has decided to give away Footcrab VIP for free as well... The original brought something new to the table with its Juke-influenced 808 drums and chopped vocal samples, and the VIP will be a most welcome addition to DJs' sets.

Last but not least, legendary UK Garage and House producer Zed Bias has recently liberated a load of lost tracks after stumbling across the DAT tapes.

Zed Bias - 'LOST DATS ARCHIVE' volume 1 (Xmas Giveaway) by zedbias

In his words:

To celebrate a great year I've decided to share a selection of 20 Zed Bias and Phuturistix remixes, rare bootlegs and instrumentals from between 1998 and 2000. About 6 years ago I had lost a box of DAT tapes and randomly found them again this year... these DATs contain all my early recordings and here I've selected some cuts that are unavailable digitally anywhere and I've had them remastered so they are ready for bangin, in the car, in the club or on your ipod.... Enjoy!

Skreaming Toddlas

Toddla T hit us up with this Skream remix for the first single being released on the Girls Music label which he's set up with Raf Rundell. The track from T Willy sounds like it might also have Benjamin Zephaniah on a poetry tip but we can't seem to find any evidence of that apart from the fact it sounds like it. Speaking of unqualified assumptions, I'm also starting to think Toddla T is actually Skream's cheeky Northern alter ego. Despite having met both of them on a few occasions and them not really being anything alike, and having no evidence to support this and no reason for thinking it at all, but the voices don't lie and when all is revealed you just wait... okay it's been a long month.

Skream Night By Night

I remember playing an impromptu Reggae set at the very first Bestival a few years back. I'd exhausted all my 7" singles that I just happened to have with me and the next DJ was still nowhere in sight. It was a case of go back through them or throw on a track from the Chromeo promo CD I had in my pocket. I went for the second option, dropped Needy Girl and they loved it. The track finished and still no sign of the next DJ so I thought bugger it and threw on another track from the album. I got through 5 tracks before the next DJ did eventually surface and nobody semmed to mind at all... anyway, I don't have a similar Skream story but his tunes have dropped just right on many other occasions. Not sure how we missed this from Green Label Sounds, it's already done the rounds a fair bit by the looks of things but if we did maybe you did too, so here you go.

Monday Mixtapes For Yo Ass

Our Monday mixtape selections this week are from a great new mix resource that goes live today. Mixcloud have

Oneman certainly captures that warm Autumn feeling perfectly in his soulful, jazzed up Dubstep mix; Legendary UK Hip-hop pusher Disorda offers up a beautiful slice of off-key Hip-hop and future soul; whilst Bok Bok hypes it up with some Tropically tinted rhythms and filthy basslines.

Uzul Suspects

Dub Technic have a grindingly good new Dubstep release due from Uzul, one of the members of the French live dub band Kaly Live Dub. With a remix from Skream and recent plays from Mary Anne Hobbs, Starkey, Headhunter and Freq Nasty underlining how good this release is, this track should hopefully open some doors for some of the dope new Dubstep producers coming out of France right now. For a taster of the Uzul sound, check out this mix he's just put together using a selection of his own pruductions.

(SS) Uzul - Megamix

Tracklisting:

1. Rumble inna station (Uzul)

Bass Therapy

Some more heavyweight mixes we've been feeling recently...

We received this bumpin' mix of Dubstep and Bass Heavy Hip-hop from Canadian Bass Junkie Subvert as a Temporal Fusion Podcast. They drop the occasional megaton bomb from the likes of Glitch Mob and Gaslamp Killer, definitely worth signing up to.

(SS) Subvert - Dubstep Mix for da Fusion (Denver, CO)

New York clothing company Mishka dropped this mix from Skream as part of their Keep Watch series a couple of weeks back. It highlights why he is still one of the best Dubstep producer / DJs in the business, and incase you hadn't noticed, that La Roux Remix is going to be absolutely huge, infact I'd say it is already. He dropped it to sing along effect at Bedlam last week and Caspa included it as the first tune in his Mini Mix on Annie Mac last night. Infact, none of us have heard the rather inferior original played anywhere.

It's Sheer Bedlam In Cardiff

Bedlam bring another massive line up to Cardiff which includes our very own Monkey & Stagga. It’s rare that promoters are brave enough to put on line ups like this in the city so this night needs to be supported to make sure it continues. These few tunes should give you an idea of who we shall definitely be checking out on the night.

The name kinda says it all with this one, Mad Professor trying to fly the Tardis on Ketamine.

(YSI) Stagga – Time Warp Dub

This one will make you skank so low you might bounce your head off the floor.

(YSI) Stagga – Rockin Down The House Dub

There's something magical and mystical about this one, the subtlest of the Eastern flavours in this selection.

(YSI) Monkey – Sometimes

When Peter Tosh says 'move ya bumbaclart' you don't really have a choice once the beat comes rollin back in.

(YSI) Monkey – Wots A Boombaclart

How convenient to have them both on the same track.

(YSI) The Black Ghosts – Some Way Through This (Plastician & Skream Remix)

High Rankin has managed to breath some new life into this one, kinda like Frankenstein and his monster.

(YSI) Chase & Status – Eastern Jam (High Rankin 100% Unofficial Remix)

A great take on the track with a Brass Band providing the music.

(YSI) Riz MC – Eastern Jam

This was originally supposed to appear on Eastern Drum and Breakz Vol 2 but was just too damn heavy compared to the rest of the album. check out his more laid back Don Leisure alter ego as well.

(YSI) Jamal – Knowledge

Toddla T is definitely the new king of Rudeboy Electro styles. This has got that classic UK Garage feel.

(YSI) Toddla T & Serocee – Manabadman
